Hello, researchers, I've nailed down a few things about Mary Bowman, and the family of Rev. Christian Bowman, Sr.. Just wanted to add a couple of details. I had it that Hatcher King gave "Floyd Co." for Mary Bowman's birthplace, although she was born before the county was formed in 1831. I figured that meant Montgomery County. Jack Spangler and Debby Bliss both reminded me that Dr. Amos Wood reported Christian Bowman's (pre-1838) family as being in Roanoke Co. - an error, as that county was formed from part of Botetourt Co. in 1838 (noted by Rena Worthen). According to Debby Bliss, Christian Bowman is listed in the census index in Botetourt Co in 1830 (p. 260). He is listed in Floyd Co. in 1840 (p. 172). Essentially, the bread crumbs say that Rev. Christian Bowman Sr. was born in Franklin County, and his children were born in Botetourt Co. They moved to Floyd County before 1840. The source for the idea that Mary Bowman was born in 1822 is probably a headstone, which I believe is in error, and ca 1826 is correct. - Steve Deal
