    3. The Virginia State Library in Richmond, VA has Montgomery County death records from 1853 thru part of 1896. I believe the LDS libraries may also have these records on microfilm. Keep in mind that these records are not complete, so even if someone died between those years, there is no guarantee that there will be a record. There are no birth/death records for the years mid-1896 thru 1912. There was no law requiring VA counties to keep those records for those years, so most did not. Also keep in mind that the writing on some pages on these microfilm reels is so faint it's impossible to read. mike

    1. Death records of Blacksburg
    2. Hi List. Does anyone know of a way to find out when someone died in Blacksburg? My great great grandmother, Margaret Cup Kilmer, was on the 1880 census in Blacksburg, but gone by the 1900 census. Since she was 60 years old in 1880, I assume she didn't remarry, but died during this time period. To have a state death certificate search made, they charge $12 per three years. I have a 20 year gap to search! So if someone knows of any other way to find this info,or at least eliminate some years, I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks. Karen Lee

John was a brother of my great-great grandfather, James Craig Taylor. From what I know, John spent most of his life in the Christiansburg area. My family has tried to figure out for years where he got his middle name from. Since most people were named for relatives back then, we figured there must have been a Locke somewhere but have never been able to pinpoint one yet. If you have any info. on any Christiansburg/Roanoke/Pulaski Co. ancestors of yours that might be related to any Taylors/Craigs/Wades/Montgomerys/Shields/Gardners, please let me know. Thanks alot, STeve Taylor

VA about May 7, 1840 and came to Ohio perhaps by 1850. His father supposedly was Samuel Hale, although I have been unable to document that. I cannot find Samuel in the 1840 census for Montgomery Co. Va. If Samuel is the father, then his wife must have died before 1843 when he married a Rachel Clawson in Ohio. The other possibility is that George's father is some other Hale. I have just about run out of options and resources and would appreciate any information that may shed some light on the matter. Thanks

    1. I need suggestions where to look from here.
    2. Bonnie
    3. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on names to investigate in the area of Pulaski, Wythe, and Montgomery Co. of Virginia. I have been searching unsucessfully to find the parents of Isaac Ashford. I have looked into the Ashworths of the county, which have some other connections to my lines in Pulaski Co. I know of a Catherine Ashford in Montgomery Co., in 1810, I believe. Then Isaac show up in 1820 or 1830. Small leap to think she is his mother since she is the only person before him with that name in Montgomery Co., but not proof. And I have been told by published research work that he is NOT connected to the Ashworth's even though a researcher in my Willis lines says that family "word" is that he WAS connected to the Ashworth's. Yes, I have seen records on another Isaac Ashford out in Tennessee/Kentucky, but the ages, family, etc. dont jive, not to me. I have no personal family info to connect me to him, Isaac, just the county records. I know his children, their husbands/wife. Pretty sure when he was born, 1801-5, died after 1860 census for the county. That is it, any suggestions.
