I have several lines from your area or at least I think they are from your area. They are Sufflebarger, Anderson, King and more. I think this area may have become Pulaski Co. later. I hope to find the name of Jacob Anderson's wife. I know her first name is Drucilla because their tombstone is on our property in So. IL. I am referring to the son of Jacob Anderson who married Christina Wysor from Montgoemery Co. VA. I would love to hear from anyone from these lines. Sharon
Hi all, When my grandparents passes away in 1931 in Blacksburg, their obit was in Roanoke Times and Montgomery County Messinger, however I don't know if it (MCM) is still in operation. Worth checking out, Kitty

Rena If you are a writer, you should know the meaning of the word critical when used in regard to evaluating books, reports, etc. Using the word critical to mean a negative evaluation of something is only one meaning of the word. CRITICAL. Characterized by careful evaluation and judgement. it's very unlikely that you would find a local (Montg. Co) newspaper from that era. The VA tech library has nothing that covers those years, and the News Messenger offices will only refer you to VA Tech. The Library of VA in Richmond has Montg. County death records on microfilm for the years 1880-1892. Not all deaths are included. Might be worth a shot. mike

My great grandmother died in Blacksburg between 1880 and 1900. Was there a local newspaper that might have carried an obituary for her? And where might I find an archive of such a newspaper? I can't find any record of her birth or marriage and don't want to order a death certificate with a 20 year span to search. The only area newspaper I can locate online is the Roanoke Times. Thanks for the help. Karen Lee

Could Ray Wall contact me concerning Wall family history of Montgomery Co., VA. I tried to send a message to your old address and it bounced back. If anyone knows Ray's new address, I would greatly appreciate it, as I have some information to share with him concerning Adam Wall's son, William Wall. Sincerely, David Anderson
Phoebe, In 1880 Berdine Akers on census in Montgomery county, VA with parents Daniel and Ellen Akers. Berdine's brothers listed are Albert, Sparrell and sister listed is Andelia. It appears from census records that Daniel may be the son of William and Lydia Akers. I have copies of the 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1910 census images if you'd like copies of them. Hello, I have seen several queries about Akers on this site, but nothing to connect the Akers family that I am looking for. I am looking for info on Addison Berdine Akers M. 03-21-1883 Adaline B. Cooper. They had a child, Sidney Clayton Akers B. 12-14-1891. Can anyone help me make connections to the Akers of Riner area of Montgomery County? I'm not sure, but I believe that area may be in present southeast Pulaski County where it adjoins Montgomery and Floyd Counties. mike

The will was drawn in 1800 with a second recording in 1802. In the will witnesses signing were Henry Patton, Obadion Dickerson, James Gordon and Patsy Dickerson.
