I recently saw a few posts about the Wirts... I don't know if there is a connection, but I do have scant information on a E. L. Wirt. E. L. Wirt born Unknown, died Unknown, E L Wirt married Madie Cromer, daughter of Nathan Cromer and Lossie Craig, on Unknown date (guessing circa 1926 based on birthdate of Madie). Madie was born about 1908, she died after 1987 (possibly still living, unconfirmed) Any info we could exchange would be helpful... sorry I don't have more on the Wirts. Please send all replies to Ccromer7@aol.com

Snider married Louemma J. Price on 24 May, 1877. John W.'s parents are listed as L.T. (supposed to be James P.) and Matilda; Louemma's (spelled Luenna on the certificate) parents are J.F. (John Floyd) and Mary C. (Carrie) Price. The Rev. S.R. Smith performed the ceremony.
Floyd County, Va. Courthouse has a very good complete set of marriage records which include almost all of the Hylton's. You can also look for John (1665) in New Kent, Virginia. I found marriage license/bonds, land records, and with the help of many residents, even located the graves and got pictures of tombstones. DiamondsDelight@aol.com

The remainder were marriage in Floyd County, Va., I believe. I think I do have these license.

Unfortunately, marriage records in the Augusta courthouse only begin with 1785. Chalkley's Chronicles, which is online at the Augusta County genweb site, lists some marriage bonds that were posted during years prior to 1785, but I checked the index and could not find an Elijah Hilton or Hylton. The bonds recorded in Chalkley's are not a complete listing, however. There are a lot of marriages that took place in that area (present Montgomery on up into Greenbrier) for which there is no record. Perhaps because they were so far from the county seat, they opted to post banns instead. mike

One of the airmen onboard that airplane was Corp. George W. Tidd, from Hendersonville, NC. He is listed in the Virginia WW2 dead because his family relocated to Blacksburg during the war. I am hoping to locate information about Corp. Tidd. Does anyone here have any ideas about where I might locate an archives that may contain letters, diaries, photos that would be useful in my research? I am also interested in locating any living relatives that are still living in the area. Can you help me? Or can you point me in the direction of someone who can? I have versome background information about Corp. Tidd except that he was born in Hendersonville. Did not marry. His mother, Mrs. Ema M. Tidd, in Blacksburg. GW Tidd was a playwright and actor, mostly local theater, before he took off for the warfront. He died after his aircraft was shot down on Dec. 1, 1943 over Burma. Can you advise me please? Besides a brief citation in Dickenson's book, _Entitled!, the only record of this event comes from William Ruffner, who was an agent of the American Colonization Society (the organization that transported the slaves to Liberia) and who claimed that the episode caused quite a stir in Christiansburg (among other things, local townspeople encouraged Bratton's son-in-law, Dr. Hugh McGavock Kent, to block the emancipation). I would greatly appreciate any information about 1) the will of Dorothea's husband, James Bratton, Jr., who died in early 1814 (probably 2 January 1814); 2) the will of Dorothea Bratton, who died, I think, around 1854, or 3) the emancipation itself. Thanks!.
