    3. Can someone here can give me tips on how to located the least expensive Census subscription at Ancestry.com? It used to cost $79 per year. Do you know how to find it...or maybe you know a cheaper price? I've gone to their website, but the only choice they give me is the full subscription for everything. That's waaaaay too expensive.....$299/year...because all I want is the Census subscription. Thanks, Sandy

    1. Ancestry.com, Heritage Quest, & Family History Centers
    2. Christine Hayes
    3. Check with your local public library. Although Heritage Quest is a paid site, many libraries have Heritage Quest At Home available for their patron's use with your library card. At Heritage Quest, you can search all census years; most are indexed and others you have to browse. Many libraries now have Ancestry.com also. If your local library doesn't have either of these services, check with the nearest large town near you to see if they do and how you can obtain a library card through them. You can do a search online to find a library near you to see what they offer and their contact information. The monthly charge to a library for Heritage Quest is large but there is no charge to the library patron. You can also check at www.familysearch.org to see where the nearest Family History Center is to you. They have Ancestry.com available at their local libraries and their services are free to the general public. You do not have to be a member of LDS to visit the centers and access their resources. The volunteer staff is friendly and helpful. I went there originally to learn to use a microfilm viewer for a genealogy trip to the WV State Archives in Charleston where all the state records are on reels of microfilm, and have used it to rent and view films there from Salt Lake City ever since. Since it was the Mormons who put all those state and county records on the microfilm at each state's archives in exchange for a copy to keep at their repository in Salt Lake City, you can access the very same records in your home town for a nominal charge. You can see what is available in their catalog at www.familysearch.org. They will not send books to the local centers, but you can get an idea of titles and authors to request through interlibrary loan at your public library. christine On Sat, 18 Feb 2006 09:55:47 -0500 "TracingMyRoots" <tracingmyroots@earthlink.net> writes: > Can someone here can give me tips on how to located the least > expensive > Census subscription at Ancestry.com? Surnames: Henderson, O'Brien Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yAC.2ACE/909.1 Message Board Post: I have some family history compiled by Anna Laura Henderson Trible of Blacksburg which includes and expands on work done by Harvy L Price, a professor at VPI in the 1930's. His work is contained in his "Outlines of Montgomery County Families" dated 1940. That work can be accessed at the Tech library under call # CS69P75. There are four volumns, Hendersons are in Vol. !. I do not know if that work gives primary references or not, but if you are near Blacksburg it might be worth taking a look at it. Anna Laura's work, however, lists William E. Henderson as the second son of Capt. John Henderson and Mary O'Brien (with an "e"). It also gives William's first wife as Nancy "Deyerle", but she has a "?" after that name. There is a second wife, Elizabeth Sessler, who married William in 1833. Also, I have Capt. John Henderson as being born in 1740. The DAR Patriot Index gives it as "circa 1740". In 1740 what is now Montgomery County was part of Augusta County. Can you tell me how (or if) you are related to William? My wife is a decendant of Col. Jonas Henderson, a younger brother of William. Hope this helps, perhaps we should compare notes further.

John Ingles and James Craig signed with Eleazer, who incidentally signed his name Leazer Cole. There is a matching document that is on file in the Montgomery County VA court house. Lee Anne

    3. Hi Sandy, As I wrote later it was just my understanding that she lived in Drapers Valley. Thanks for correcting me. When I use to live in Radford, back in the late 1940's, I spent many hours walking up and down the river bank looking for arrowheads. I found many. I use to go to the fairgrounds in Christainsburg and watch the NASCAR legend Curtis Turner race, before there was a NASCAR. My dad was a automobile mechanic and use to help him work on some of his race cars. Talking to him many times, or getting a pat on the back or a firm hand shake from him, many times and watching him race in the first Southern 500 stock car race on Labor Day, 1950 in Darlington are some of my many fondest memories when I lived in Radford and I have many.
