He cut my hair when I was a child. What would you like to know? Three of your great grandfathers brothers and one sister still live in the Christiansburg area. I am sure they would be happy to tell you lots of stories about him. My dad Harvey L. Sheppard Jr., (He was called Junior.) and uncle Dan were very close and worked together at RAAP. The store and barbershop buildings were both still standing the last time I was up there in the fall. He first ran the barber shop in a building owned with his older brother uncle Burks Sheppard a little further up the road on 114. He built moved to the store, which he and your great grandmother ran. I rember they lived in the basement for awhile. Write me an email and will be happy to work with you to get everyone together again as we use to at the family reunions. I didn't get up that way when you great grandfather's sister Loraine Hamblin passed away recently. I would like to try and keep in ! touch with as much of the family as possible. I have compiled our families history back to the early 1700's and will be happy to share they information with you if your interested. Donald L. Sheppard "Donnie"

    1. Ross in Montgomery County
    2. marsha moses
    3. Pat, I had saved this e-mail from you from long ago. Will you please tell me what you know about this couple and where they were living in Montgomery County? I have a Jacob Elliott and family who were living in Rowan County then when county lines changed, Randolph County, NC in the late 1700's. Near the end of the Revolutionary War, Jacob (who was a Quaker and pacifist) had a close call and seems to have moved his family to Montgomery County, VA for safety. My gut feeling is that he would have moved to an area that had Quakers living in it. I know that there were Quakers near Lynchburg....but I believe that Lynchburg would have been too far east to have been in Montgomery County. In this time period, Montgomery would have been quite large and extended north all the way to Kanawha and adjoined Greenbrier County in what is now WV..... I have been told that there were Quakers near what is now Wytheville, VA. I have not yet done enough research to verify this information. Perhaps it is a coincidence that the man that you mention below carries the name Alexander Ross....and that this man was not descended from the Alexander Ross who had helped to form Hopewell MM in northern VA in the early 1700's....but when I saw his name that is what jumped into my mind......Is there a chance that this couple was living near Quakers or ex-Quakers? 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yAC.2ACE/971 Message Board Post: James Deveraux Kent -- born October 25, 1879 in Christiansburg, VA Parents: Joseph Henry Kent (lawyer, land speculator out west--moved to Louisiana) and Margaret 'Maggie' Virginia Taylor Kent-died a year or two after James's birth--age 23 Spouse: possibly a woman named Margaret F. Ingles Kent Employment: possibly a coke engineer in Portsmouth, OH Any info anyone can provide on the above would be greatly appreciated. He is one of our 'lost' relatives. After his mother died he lived with his maternal grandparents, James Craig Taylor and Katherine Rebecca Wade Taylor in Christiansburg. After they died he went to live with his father in LA but that didn't work out so he moved to his paternal aunt's home near Dallas TX. A few years later he was living back in Roanoke, VA with his paternal grandmother, Lucy Kent, widow of Dr. Hugh McGavock Kent. After that the only possible records we can find of him are through census searches and they are sketchy at best since his first and last name were common. Thanks, Steve
