Hello Listers. Would someone with marriage records access do me a great favor and look up the marriage of Florence Burton to William Crockett Harless? I know they married in July 1866 in Montgomery Co., and I need to know who her parents were, and if there were any witnesses to the marriage. Thanks so much for your help. Karen Lee Williamsburg,VA

This couple DID NOT marry in Montgomery County, at least their names are NOT in the REED or WILEY index. I can't help you on the gravesites either. Have you tried in WV? That is where most of the Wiley are from. The Staff in Montgomery County Clerk's office is most helpful, Genealogy Research is NOT their job.

I am trying to locate and buy the marriage license for Stella Mae Reed to James Howard Wiley on Feb 3, 1926. They were married in Mongomery Co in Blacksburg or Christiansburg,VA. Not sure which. Can anyone help me with this? I called the Montgomery Co court house and the woman I spoke to must have forgotten to have her coffee this morning. She was absolutely no help and could give me no information. I am so frustrated!!! Also, I am looking for where my greatgrandmother Mary Etta Reed died and was buried. I think she may have died in Montgomery Co as that is where she was living with her husband Wm Snead in 1930 census, but she could have been brought back to Floyd to be buried. Thanks to you all from the California Girl!!! Marsi

Charley's father was William B (born in Floyd County). Wm B born abt. 1846 Floyd County, died sometime after 1930 in Montgomery County. I've searched through all the Jones' in Grayson, Ashe NC, Alleghany NC, Montgomery and surrounding places but have never been able to make the connection needed. I've noticed the Minitree name numerous times throughout SW Va families but again have not come up with the right combination. I wish you luck! Viola Jones (Shenton)

We bought in Elliston in 1979 and have lived here for 27 years. We have worked for the community in many ways( e.g., Karen is Editor of the Linc letter and we are major contributors to the various Meadowbrook community building projects). We value the quiet rural environment so much we created a ONE-ACRE butterfly garden on our property in Echo Hills. All this is threatened by the location of the NS shipping facility. It guarantees major increases in truck traffic in this area. It guarantees major increases in traffic congestion on this portion of I-81 due to major increases in truck traffic. Even if the claimed decrease in overall truck traffic is true, it has NO BEARING on the guaranteed increases in truck traffic in and around the shipping facility. It threatens major increases in polluted air and water due to all the truck traffic and all the additional paved areas replacing vegetated/forested land. It makes no sense to locate such a facility so close to a major school and right on a river. Please block this action. Please think of those of us who moved here for the quality of life. And PLEASE THINK OF OUR BUTTERFLIES AND THE ELEVEN YEARS WE'VE PUT INTO CREATING THIS ONE-ACRE BUTTERFLY GARDEN IN ELLISTON. Sincerely, Michael and Karen Cronin 1260 Echo Hills Road Elliston,VA 24087

There is no documentation which means that I could have just picked it up from another e-mail.... Marsha and Rena, I can document the marriage of Asa H. Jewell and Louisa Payne for you. The marriage took place on November 15, 1866 in Mercer County, West Virginia and was performed by Joseph Wright. This is the whole entry: November 15, 1866 Asa H. Jewell, age 30, single, born in Montgomery County, Virginia, son of John and C. Jewell to Louisa Payne, age 20, single, born in Mercer County, West Virginia, daughter of William and Julia A. Payne--his occupation was farmer and marriage performed by Joseph Wright. Documentation: Mercer County, West Virginia Marriage Book 1, Page 13, Item 32. This listing is found on page 19 of Mercer County, West Virginia Marriage Book 1 1854-1901, compiled by Sallie Hays in 1995. It may also interest you to know that John Jewell's wife is given as Christiana instead of Christina--this is found in their daughter Christiana Jewell's marriage, also from Mercer County from this entry found on Page 6 of Sallie Hays volume: (Original found on Page 4, line 44) November 24, 1857 George D. Bailey age 27 years 10 months 19 days, single, born in Mercer County, West Virginia, son of George and Francis Bailey to Christiana Jewell, age 17 years 4 months, 13 days, single born in Montgomery County, Virginia where she now lives, daughter of John and Christiana Jewell. Occupation was farmer and ceremony performed by Evan H. Brown. Interestingly enough is a SECOND MARRIAGE for Christiana F. Bailey, a widow, in this entry found on page 13 with the Original record being on Page 9, line 34. (Christiana's age is wrong but it has to be the same person.) October 11, 1865 W. H. Roach age 20, single Born in Logan County, West Virginia son of Reuben and Margaret Roach to Christian(a) F. Bailey, age 20, widow, born in Montgomery County, Virginia daughter of John and Christian(a) Jewell, his occupation was farmer and ceremony performed by Joseph Wright. Hope this helps for you.
