It is a soft bound volume of 164 pages that contains a lot of diligent research (before the computer era), family stories, history and background information. Several of the original publication are still floating around, although the only way you will get one is to inherit or steal it. Copied prints are available at http://www.higginsonbooks.com/a.htm at a cost of $27.00. EMERA ALTIZER Of MONTGOMERY COUNTY,VA And SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS 1736 - 1997 by Ora Belle Mayberry McColman And Others This book is over 600 pages of family lineage. It is 8.5x11 inches, ring bound listing of several hundred Altizers and their relatives and would be a great addition to your research library. I believe the price of the book is $35.00. It is available directly from Ms. McColman at: Ora Belle McColman 2123 - 10th St., NW Roanoke, VA 24012-3925 (540) 366-9142 THE ALTIZER FAMILY Sons and Daughters of The Old Dominion by William E. Payne & Berdine E. Warden Payne This book would be a beautiful addition to anyone's library. It is 8½ x 11 inches, and offset printed on 60 pound acid free paper. It contains over 740 pages including 83 half-tone photographs, an index, and a bibliography. It has a hard binding in a deep green color, with gold foil letters stamped on the front and spine, and the spine is over sewn for sturdiness. Do not be deceived by the title. It is not just about the Altizer families that lived in Virginia. Bill has researched all branches of the Emera Altizer family and their descendants and compiled as much information about each branch as could be located, regardless of where they lived. The book is available directly from Bill at: William Payne 69 County Road 7452 Jonesboro, AR 72401 email address: bpayne@cox-internet.com

Last night I wrote about the books I'm selling at E-bay, and a number of people wrote to say the links I listed weren't working. It is because Rootsweb's software broke the link when the line wrapped -- it gave only the first half of each link. In order to make these links work you will have to paste one of the blue lines below into your web browser and then add the black line immediately following that blue line by pasting it to the end of the blue text, so that the entire page code appears in your browser address line before you hit the enter key. Hi, I thought someone on this list might be interested in knowing that I'm selling a number of books of early records of Botetourt, Fincastle, Montgomery, Washington and Wythe counties on E-bay. These are from my personal collection of books and are all in like-new condition. Most are less than 50% of the price I paid for them in the early 90s. Most of them cost quite a lot more now if purchased new. All could have been in Montgomery County. There was the Captain Daniel that married Mary Wickham. Jacob Jr. and Annie named one of their children Daniel Jr. Jacob Jr. and Annie also had a son named William T. William T. is my Great Grandfather and he lived in Montgomery county at that time so I think that his brother (Daniel, son of Jacob and Annie) could be your Daniel. Please contact me with any information you have. Believe it or not, I believe I have picutres of William T. and one of his brothers on glass. Probably taken about 1855 and I am looking for other family members that might have photos taken at the same setting to help me make a more positive identification. Or, just drop me a note and let me know what you think. You should get my email from ! the rootsweb. If I don't hear from you soon, I will try another method of contact.

We are attempting to find documented male descendants of all the original male Phillips immigrants to the New World and encourage them to join the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. DNA genealogical studies work very successfully on straight line male descendants, so their DNA is a precious commodity. The DNA test is painless and only involves swabbing the inside of the cheek with a special brush or scraper. The lab mails a kit to the participant and then the participant mails the kit back to the lab. The kit is assigned a number, and the name of the participant is never published, thereby assuring privacy and confidentiality. Also, the lab only looks at certain markers on the male Y-chromosome, so this test does not identify any medical problems or other sensitive information. The DNA test is not free, but the participant gets a break with regard to the cost of the test if he participates in the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. In addition, financial aid may be available if the candidate belongs to an especially representative or large Phillips line and he has excellent documentation. If you are a straight line male Phillips descendant of a Phillips Immigrant, and you are willing to join the DNA project, or if you know someone who is a straight line male descendant of a Phillips Immigrant, please contact me at vapsmith@ntelos.net or Shannon Phillips at PHILLIPSDNAPROJ@AOL.COM. Shannon is the volunteer project administrator for the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. By the way, we are all volunteers and are not being compensated in any way to pursue this project. Thank you for taking the time to read this message and we look forward to hearing from you. I hope and believe this new scientific tool will solve many genealogy puzzles and tear down many brick walls. Sincerely, Virginia Phillips-Smith
