    1. [VAMONTGO] Re: NANCY KING
    2. Hi I am new to this list. I have been trying to find information about JAMES MONROE KING. b Aug 1838 in Floyd Co., VA to mother NANCY KING. Since Floyd Co was formed from Montgomery about that time, I thought perhaps NANCY might have been in the part of Montgomery Co that became Floyd. I know nothing more about NANCY so am hoping that someone will have a NANCY KING who would have been of childbearing age in 1838. She may not have been married. No father was listed on JAMES' marriage record in Floyd Co., when he married Mildred Jane Kennett. James & Mildred were my grgrandparents and I am very anxious to find his parents and/or siblings. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated and I would be happy to share information. Mary Ellen [email protected]

    2. J Ray Young
    3. Does anyone have any history of the Montgomery co malitia that fought at the battle of King's Mountain in 1780. I have some of the books about the battle itself but I am looking for anything that might shed a little light on some of the relationships of the members of the malitia. My Samuel Young served as an "indian scout" under Major James Montgomery and Col Campbell in this battle. Thanks J. Ray Young

    3. Dear List, Sandy and others are researching the Pauley family who were on Walker's Creek before 1807. I am interested in the Lindsey family which was also on Walker's Creek in the 1780-1800 period and I think migrated to Washington Co. VA along the South Holston. Just want to ask knowledgable listers about Walkers Creek. I found one Walker Creek on USGS maps which flows into Middle fork of Holston R. (See http://terraserver.microsoft.com/default.asp). But the Kegleys references say Walkers Creek is a branch of New River. P159 "13 June 1792, Moses Lindsey and Lettice to James Waddle, 123 acres adjoining Samuel Newberry, deceased, and the Green Hill on Walkers Creek, branch of New River." I suppose there could be two Walkers Creeks on either side of Walker mountain. Any ideas where is the one that flows into New River?
