    1. [VAMONTGO] PLEASE HELP
    2. I am new to this list and needs some real help. Until yesterday I was wondering if my great grandmother was an alien from Mars or some unknown galaxy. Seriously I knew she was but from documentation I have received she was born in four different states and in three decades. New found information had my great grandmother ELLEN F. FORD being born May 1856 in Virginia. Now that I know she didn't just pop into this world or come on a flying saucer I am looking for information on her family, parents, and siblings. If you have Ford info please check for her. Also I need a CENSUS look up for 1860 and 1870. She married in April 1872 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Any help is greatly appreciated. If you look for her in census records you have access to please let me know where you looked so I will know at least where she is not at in Virginia. Thanks you for you help. Patricia

    1. [VAMONTGO] Murdock=Sweeney Marriage in Christiansburg, 1906
    2. Bruce Murduck
    3. Good morning, and thanks to all who responded.... The picture is coming in to better focus. Can anyone add anything more? Birth (1879) and/or marriage (circa 1906) records from Montgomery County would probably provide Samuel Murdock's parents names. Does anyone have access to these, or know how to access them? 1850 Census indexes from Montgomery County are available, and information extracted from the returns has been sent to me. The families noted in the census returns stitch in with information found on the web page <http://expage.com/eakley>, which suggests (remotely!, recognizing that there's a space of 30 years between the 1850 census and Samuel's birth....) the possibility that Samuel's father was part of this family group. The woman that Samuel married was Lelia D. Sweeney (also noted in Maryland records to have been born in 'Christensberg, VA'). Information sent to me (extracted from World Family Tree Volume 9) suggests that Lelia's parents were Joseph Evans Sweeney, 1858 - 1905, and Louisa Orba Stone, 1868 - 1948. Cheers, Bruce Murduck

    1. [VAMONTGO] Help with c1906 Christiansburg Marriage
    2. Bruce Murduck
    3. Good afternoon folks, Samuel MURDOCK (surname later has been written as MURDUCK) is believed to have been born in Christiansburg in 1879. His wife, Lelia D. SWEENEY, was likewise reputed to have been born there in c1887. They probably married in about 1906, and two children are known. Can anyone provide any information about the marriage, or about the parents, siblings, etc., of Samuel? How else might I go about searching for MURDOCKs in Montgomery County? All messages responded to, with thanks. Bruce Murduck 820 Allum Ave, Kingston, ON, Canada, K7M 7A1 [email protected]

    1. [VAMONTGO] Moses-Wells-Jewell-Gordon-Hall-Vanover in Montgomery County, Va
    2. marsha moses
    3. My name is Marsha Moses. I live in Huntington, WV. I research the above names in Montgomery County, Va. My earliest Moses is Archie W. Moses who is said to have been born in Montgomery County in 1837. He married (?) Nancy Wells in Montgomery County in 1860. Both Archie and Nancy were said to have been from farms in a place where the post office was McDonald's Mill close to Blacksburg RFD. There son, Willis Jackson Moses, continued to live in Montgomery County all of his life (1866-1961) He was a methodist minister and was still preaching in his 90's. Thanks to people on this list, I have added a great deal of information about the Jewells, the Halls and the Vanovers to my data base this year. And was lucky enough to have been able to make a quick trip to Montgomery County over Labor Day weekend when I spent a day with a Moses cousin with whom I visited the grave of Asa Hall and some of the land marks of the Moses family. I know very little about Nancy Wells--and have been told by another researcher that that was not the name that is in that person's data base for the wife of Archie. This person believes her to be Nancy Martin. On the Gordons, I believe that Martha Elizabeth (Betty) Gordon was born circa 1837 and died in 1939. Both events took place in Montgomery County. I believe that her father was Jeff Gordon. My belief is based on the following: in an article in the Shawsville paper Oct 28--not sure of which year but the year in which Betty Gordon Jewell was 82...it says that she was born and reared in Montgomery County and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Gordon, of near Shawsville. So those are the people that I am interested in and research....hope to hear from some of you that our research intercepts. I am particularly interested in receiving information from some of you who have continued in the Montgomery County area--facts and stories that give me a feeling for your part of the world. The kinds of stories that give one a feeling for what the area was like in the 1800's or 1700's....what the time frame was for when the area was first settled. I have another man who I do not believe lived in Montgomery County--I think that he was a mine superintendant in Wythe County. His name was Dow Lorenzo Cole. The story goes that he played the fiddle at White Sulphur Springs in Montgomery County. I found a photo of the place. But I would love to have more information about what it was like in the 1800's. Thanks for reading. Marsha Moses in WV

    3. Hello; Canterberry families show up in Fairfax County records as early as the 1740s. Perhaps earlier. These families moved through many counties or wound up in counties as the boundaries changed. Does anyone have any info on these families 1740 (or before) and following through to the early 1800s? Thank you for your time and attention.

    1. Re: [VAMONTGO] Roll Call: MYERS LINDSEY BRECENRIDGE D0AK
    2. katie angermeyer
    3. I am researching LINDSEY / MYERS (MARRS, MIRES, MOYERS) / BRECKENRIDGE / DOAK who were or may have been in Montgomery County circa 1784 - 1796 (or possibly till 1812). I have found, with the help of this list, my gggg grandfather Moses LINDSEY m Leticia BRECKENRIDGE Sep 27, 1785 in Montgomery Co. They owned land on Walkers Creek, and Moses LINDESEY between 1784 and 1796. Moses was appointed overseer of the road by Montgomery Co. Court in 1786. I believe, but would like to prove, that this Moses LINDSEY is the same as the Moses LINDSEY who owned property in Washington Co. VA on the South Holston from 1789 until his death prior to 1812, when his heirs sold some of the land. I would like to know more about his birth, death and where buried. I do not know his parents. Likely they are Scots/Irish >PA> Augusta Co. VA>Montgomery Co. VA > Washington Co. VA. I have more on Leticia BRECKENRIDGE, parents are George BRECKENRIDGE and Ann DOAK. I would like to hear from anyone else relating. Children of Moses LINDSEY Sr. (who owned property in Washington Co. VA) are: Isaac LINDSEY m. Polly ? Moses Jr. LINDSEY m. Catherine MIRES 1813 Washington Co. VA Polly (Mary?) LINDSEY m. Obadiah NEEL Elizabeth LINDSEY m. Thomas H. JOHNSON lived in Johnson Co. TN up to Civil War times. (likely also, not proven) John LINDSEY m. Elizabeth RAMBO 1813 Washington Co. VA., volunteered for War of 1812, died of disease Norfolk VA 1814. Moses Jr. and Catherine MIRES/ MYERS are my line. I would dearly like to find her parents. She is German ancestry, and latest lead is that she may be the daughter of Peter and Catherine MOYERS, and may be the Catherina baptized at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Rural Retreat, Montgomery>Wythe Co. on Apr 6, 1797 - born Oct 1796 possibly in NC or VA. I found this from: http://www.naxs.com/people/cameron/PAULBP.HTM Curious is the fact that there are both LINDSEY and MYERS born between 1845 and 1890 buried at this church. See: http://www.naxs.com/people/cameron/PAULCEM.HTM I would like to hear from anyone who may descend from these Lindseys or Myers. Burial records. St Pauls, Rural Retreat, Wythe Co. VA LINDSEY, HENRY LEE May 27 1845 Feb 14 1910 LINDSEY, MARGARET ELIZABETH Feb 22 1843 Sep 20 1862 LINDSEY, MARY E. Feb 29 1848 Jan 14 1896 LINDSEY, VIOLA Jul 02 1871 Sep 21 1950 LINDSEY, WILLIAM T. Sep 20 1890 Feb 24 1963 I would like to know the history of the churches in the Walkers Creek area, if there is anyone out there knowledgeable. German Lutheran or Scots/Irish Presbyterian, from 1770’s to 1800. Family legend has it that Catherine MIRES was an indentured servant on the Moses LINDSEY farm (which could have been either Walkers Creek (present day Bland/Giles Co, or South Holston River -Washington VA ). Moses Jr. and Catherine were married in Oct 1813 in Washington Co. VA, and their son David, my gg grandfather, was born in 1813, which when counting the gestation months, leads one to believe the wedding was of the shot gun variety. 3. I don't know if this will help but I had some Brownings in my family. Cassandra Browning, b. about 1800, probably in Culpeper Co., Va., daughter of Nicholas Browning, 1777-1849. She married my gggg-grandfather, Johnson McQueen. Nicholas was supposedly born in Culpeper Co. and died in Rappahannock Co. so these might be places to look for your Brownings. I just don't have any information on siblings of Cassandra. Richardd
