    1. [VAMONTGO] Need help finding the early Fincastle records
    2. Hi All, I am researching my GGGgrandfather Caleb W. Litton. Caleb Wilcox Litton Birth: 30 Apr 1768, Fincastle, Botetcourt Co. VA Death: Jan 1824, Hopkins County, Kentucky Spouse: Rebecca Berry Birth: ca 1775, Augusta Co., VA Marr: abt 1795 My GGGgrandfather Caleb W. Litton is the son of John Richard Litton who married Sarah Ann Wilcoxen. John R. Litton was a Barrester (Lawyer) in Augusta Co Va and finally ended up in Russell Co. Va. His time was 1726-1804. My research indicates that my GGGgrandfather Caleb was born in Fincastle, Botecourt Co.Virginia in 1768. I know that Draper was given most of the early Fincastle records, but I have not found referernce to the Litton's in the Draper Manuscripts. Does anyone know if any of the early records from Fincastle might be found somewhere else? Please Help! Caroline

    2. derald
    3. I have noticed that a large number of WEDDLEs were in Montgomery county for several years before1800. I also found that a Jacob WOLF bought some land in Montgomery Cnty before 1800. I suspect that Jacob is a son of Jeremiah WOLF who married an Elizabeth WEDDLE in PA and that they may have moved to to VA together or followed later. Can anyone shed some light on the WEDDLEs or WOLFs in Montgomery Cnty, VA? Derald Morgan

    3. I am looking for information on: Jacob WOLF who purchased land in Montgomery County in the late 1700s, I am interested if anyone has information if this is the same Jacob WOLF that married Hannah KINSEY in Franklin Cnty, VA Jeremiah WOLF who may have come to the Shenandoah Valley with the WEDDLE family in the late 1700s Jacob Kinsey who came to the Valley in the late 1700s and lived in Botetourt and Franklin County It is likely that these families were Brethren from PA/MD and moved together with many inter family marriages.

Thanks to the suggestion of one of our listers, Sherry Rice, I am currently working on a page that features Coal mining in SW Virginia. Please contact me if you have any stories, pictures, etc. that you might like to add. This is a very neglected topic here in SW VA and we would like to see it highlighted as so many ancestors from this area made their living in the mines. Happy Hunting! Tami P. 3. Suzie, THis is such a crazy longshot....there are so many Millers in every community...but I was browsing the VPI special collections index on line a few weeks ago and made a note to take a look at these papers the first time I get to Montgomery County. I have Muellers who came from Germany in 1749. My Jacob was the founder of Woodstock, Virginia--it was originally called Muellerstadt. The story goes that there were four brothers. Two settled in Pa, one in Maryland, and the fourth was my Jacob. My people are Millers by the time Jacob dies. Jacob had six children. His grandson moved on to the western part of VA in 1795. --actually Gallipolis, Ohio which sits across the river from Pt. Pleasant, Va--WV now. So I cannot but guess that others of the grandchildren were moving west as well. I do not know what the Schwabisch Hall means below....but the Pa Millers caught my eye... I have Appersons in one of my non-Montgomery County lines. I do not know if we connect somewhere with your Elizabeth. My Appersons who fit her time frame were James Apperson b. 1783 --his daughter is Nancy born 1809 and married in 1824. James was married in Buckingham County. His wife was born in Cumberland County. Nancy's children seem to have been born in Appomatix. I looked among James's other children and found no Elizabeth. Marsha in WV MILLER, CHARLES A. (1819-93). FAMILY PAPERS, 1708-1926. 0.4 cu. ft. Christiansburg, Virginia, clergyman. Served as a home missionary in Giles County, Virginia, (1849-51) and in the Kimberlin Church of Giles County (1853-62). Pastor in the White House Church near Radford, Virginia, from 1871-93. Collection includes account books (1818-1903) of Rev. Miller and his second wife Melinda Taylor, as well as those of his ancestor Johann Muller of Schwabisch Hall in Germany letters from (1708-26); oath of allegiance (1778) annotated by Miller's uncle, the folk artist Lewis Miller (1796- 1882), of Ludwig Miller of Worcestor Township, Pennsylvania; certificate of apprenticeship (1799) of Daniel Miller of York County, Pennsylvania; and several other papers belonging to Rev. Miller, including deeds (1855), a diary (1858), and receipts and promissory notes (1840-1906). Mrs. Miller's papers include correspondence (1893- 1903), a bank book (1901-02), and a typescript genealogy of her family (1926). Ms83-001.
