    1. [VAMONTGO] Some More Info
    2. Melissa F. Morgan - Kline
    3. Hello Again, I posted earlier about an obituary that I need for Montgomery County. I've received quite a few e-mails from kind souls offering assistance :). Thank you! Here's some more info.: The obit that I need is for Lundy Fagg. He died January 23, 1972. His obit was listed under the town name of Blacksburg. The funeral was held in the Jones Funeral Church - I've been told that this is now the McCoy Funeral Home. He is buried at McCoy in the (it looks like) Centennial Christian Church Cemetery. The library found the obit in the News Messenger which I assume is a local paper for the Blacksburg/Montgomery County area. Here is what I'm able to get from the obituary - I'm guessing at some of the info. as I'm not familiar with the local funeral homes, churches, or cemeteries. Lundy Fagg Blacksburg - Lundy Fagg, 80(?), formerly of Blacksburg, died Sunday, January 23, 1972, in a Clarksburg(?) W. Va, hospital. He is survived by two foster daughters, Mrs. Porter L. Van Horn, Weston, W. Va. Mrs. John S. (?), Martinsville(?); a half sister, Mrs. Della(?) Sigman(?), Blacksburg. The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, in the Jones Funeral Church. Burial was in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery at McCoy. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. D. L. Board(?) pastor of the Sunnydale Pentecostal(?) Holiness Church(?). Pallbearers were John Smith, Lee (?), Stanall(?) Smith, Melvin(?) Smith, Samuel Smith(?) and Stanley(?) Smith. The hospital may have been a VA hospital. Mrs. Van Horn may have been Mildred. If anyone can suggest a way to get a legible obit, or if anyone has ties to this family, please let me know. Again, thank you all so much for your assistance. Melissa

A few weeks ago I ordered a copy of an obituary from the Montgomery Floyd Regl Library. They found a copy of the obit in the News Messenger, but unfortunately the copy that they sent is so poor, that I can't begin to guess at some of the names and places mentioned. I'm not familiar with the area or with this family as I've only just begun to research the line. Is there any place else in the area that would have access to the News Messenger from 1972? This obit. is very important. Thank you so much! Melissa Kline

    1. [VAMONTGO] FW: Marriage info
    2. Angela Griffin
    3. Does anyone know if I can send for marriage information directly to Montg county or do I have to write to vital record in Richmond? Initially, I believed the following individuals got married in Little River Township, Floyd Co. after 1870 census and before 1880 but after Paul was nice enough to check Floyd CH and found nothing, my only other location is Christiansburg District, Montgomery Co. where the family lived during the 1880 census. Sarah Saunders b. 1856 (possibly James) Benjamin Saunders b. 1858 Minerva Saunders b. 1859 Marshall Saunders b. 1861 The parents of these people are Calvin and Amanda (Taliaferro) Saunders. Amanda died late 1870 and Calvin married Jemima Brooks. Calvin and Brooks could be on the marriage document. Can someone help me find them and who they married? Angela

    1. [VAMONTGO] VA Bureau of Vital Statistics
    2. Joseph J. Messersmith, Jr.
    3. In a previous message I discussed birth, death and marriage records available in VA. In 1896 the state discontinued the requirement that births and deaths be reported to the county or city. It remained that way until June 1912. Starting June 1912, it became law that all births and deaths be reported to the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Richmond. Copies of birth and death certificates can be obtained from that office for a fee. Below I have pasted the URL for their internet site that should answer all your questions. http://www.vdh.state.va.us/misc/faq.htm A couple years ago the Library of VA obtained microfilm copies of these death certificates starting in June 1912 and continuing I believe until at least 1950. In order to locate the certificate, you must first find the individual in a microfilm index that gives the certificate number, date of death, and city or county of death. I do not know if these microfilm records are available for inter-library loan. Good luck. Jim Messersmith Rockville, VA

    3. Harry! The road known as the Mud Pike is actually State Rt. 666 from Christiansburg to Radford. In C-burg, it begins at State Rt. 8, just shy of the I-81 Exit 114 on the downtown side, and mostly parallels I-81 to the Radford exit 109. The general location of the road would be southwest of C-burg. 3. Is there anyone on the list that can tell me the current designation for a road once known as Mud Pike? I found this name in Early Adventures of Western Waters Vol. 1 on Page 332 as a note to the bottom of a page showing a map. There is no North Arrow on the map but I think north is probably perpendicular to to the binding. If this is the case it would place the road in a southwesterly direction from Christiansburg. VA It appears that this road passed through ancestral property of PIERCE/PEARCE (at least in 1834). Any help is much appreciated. Harry S Pierce
