Hello Flinns: I saw your email on the Mecklenburg Rootweb site and was suprised to see the name of James Madison Flinn. He is also in our line. The one I have is married to Jane Sophia Lane rather that Margaret Groves. Our James Madison Flinn was the son of William Flinn and North American Tatum. This line comes down from Lauglin Flinn in early 1600 VA thru Squire Flinn in Iowa to Larry Finnn my wife's father. They were from Perry Co. Iowa. Because of the same rather unusual name I would like to see what your line looks like. Larry Flinn and Isabel Wimmell were divorced about 1946-7. Isabel, my mother in law, would not give me any information about him, so when our daughter was born, I wanted to fill in her mother's side of the family and went to SLC where I researched the family. Before I got that far I wrote letters to every Flinn in the Perry Co, IA area in Oct. and did not hear anything until the next March. Then I got a letter from one of Larry's sisters, who was delighted to make contact and put me in touch with 3 more sisters and another brother. They had a reunion in May and sent my wife, Nancy Ellen Flinn, a scrap book they had put together with pictures of her father with her and much more. She had never known her father. So with those leads I went to SLC and was able to trace at least one line of her family to Wales in 800 AD. The family was tied in with the Morris line, which was derived from the Celtic Rys and Mars + Mor-ris. If we could find some common relatives I would be glad to share what I have. Would be glad to hear from you.
