William, I read you post with interest. We have a Thomas Fletcher Adams in our files. He married in Granville County, NC on the 18 August 1868, Phebe Ann Flinn, daughter of James Madison Flinn and Margaret "Peggy" Graves Flinn. Phebe is sister to our GrGrGrandfather. We also have a Julia Graves (sister to "Peggy") but we have her married 17 July 1849 to Stephen Spain. Could this be the same Julia and a second marriage? I never knew Fletcher and Phebe Adams but my grandmother used to talk about them. She referred to them as Uncle Fletcher and Aunt Phebe. They use to live in a log cabin near West Creek in Amelia County. The house was still standing a few years ago. I am not sure about now. The Flinn's and Adams came to Amelia County from Mecklenburg. They had lived in that part of Mecklenburg on the border with Granville County, NC and were tennant farmers so they moved back and forth across the border. Some of them attended church in Townsville, NC and there are some of our ancestors buried there. Aunt Phebe and Uncle Fletcher did not have any children of their own. They did raise a black girl like she was their own. She thought of them as her family. I do not recall her name or why they raised her. Phebe and Fletcher Adams are buried in the Amelia Presbyterian Church cemetery at Amelia Court House, Virginia.
