Seeking information on the above connected connected families to a SPAIN family who were in Mecklenburg Co., Va. in the late 1790s and early 1800s. Earliest records found: JAMIMA SPAIN, widow, purchased land in 1813 from THOMAS and ANGEL- ICO(A) SPAIN [I believe this to be a bro- ther to her late husband. He moved to Meck. from Dinwiddie Co., prior to 1800] In 1816, she deeded this property at her death, for one dollar each and the love and affection she had, to all her children. She married, at about that time to CAIN COLE- MAN. She named each of her children in the deed. Further research revealed the names of who the children married. Children and spouses: JAMES SPAIN, b c 1785, d bef 1860, m MARY (POLLY) MOSS in Meck., Va, moved to Sumner, Tn. ROYALL SPAIN, b c 1788, d Jun, 1872 m (1) TABITHA HARRIS in Meck., Va. Stayed there. m (2) HARRIETT WOOTTEN JOHN SPAIN, b c 1892, d aft 1870, m MARTHA COLEMAN in Meck., Va. Va., VIRGINIA JANE GRAVES MARY (POLLY) SPAIN, b c 1804, d c 1857, Dallas Co., Mo., m in Meck., Va. Daniel GRAVES ? Spain could not have died before 1803, due to age of youngest daughter, nor after 1813, when Jamima was a widow. We believe that ? SPAIN was a brother of STEPHEN SPAIN who left Dinwiddie Co and moved to Ruther- ford Co., Tn., as a letter from Stephens ggrandson states his gfather told him they were cousins to the Spains in Maury Co., Tn. I have much information on the Spains and would be willing to exchange information. Jeanne Spain 1319 Janwood Drive Plano, Tx 75075-7228 e-mail: jlspain@aol.com
