To Betty, <bharris@inebraska.com Regarding my knowledge of Harris families in Mecklenburg. I know the Tabitha Harris who m Royall Spain was the daughter of William Harris, Sr., and his wife, Ann, as she was mentioned in both their wills in Mecklenburg Co in the 1820s. I have a book of will abstracts which gives the following information regarding a will of one William Harris. Will is dated 7 May, 1792, recorded 13 Jan., 1794, Will Book 1, pg 297 Names wife: Judith Harris Children: Peter Harris, William Harris, James Harris, Sherwood Harris, Reuben Harris, Charles Harris, Samuel Harris, John Harris, Claiborne Harris, Robert Harris, Martha Harris. Specific bequests made to all children All remainder of estate, both real and personal to wife, Judith Harris Executors: Sons William and Reuben Harris; William Hudson and Mark Moore. Witnesses: Richard Ragsdale, Alexander Poole, and Mark Moore I am reasonably sure this is the grandfather of Tabitha who married Royall Spain, as she had a sister named Judith. Perhaps a grandfather to your James. I do not have a copy of the will, nor have I seen it, as it does not help my cause in tracing the Spains. Neither do I have one for Tabitha’s father and mother, but do know there were brother’s also mentioned. I would most certainly request a copy of this will if I were persuing the Harris family and did not have it.
