I haven't managed to push my Garrett line earlier than 1820 in Granville County, North Carolina so I don't know if we have any connection or not. (In my "free time"<grin>) I am currently researching Edward J. Garrett: The details I have on my Garrett line follow below. He was born 1820 in Granville County, North Carolina. He married ELIZABETH COX. She was born 1830 in Granville County, North Carolina. They semed to have from Granville County, NC across the border to Mecklenburg County, VA. The following are listed together in the VA 1860 census; I believe they are the children of EDWARD GARRETT. Since the Elizabeth would have been 13 when James was born, he could have been Edward's son by a previous marriage. JAMES GARRETT, b. Abt. 1843. VIRGINIA GARRETT, b. Abt. 1850. MARION GARRETT, b. Abt. 1852. JOHN GARRETT, b. Abt. 1854. HUMS (name just a guess, the census record was hard to read) GARRETT, b. Abt. 1856. ALONZO GARRETT, b. April 09, 1859, Granville County, North Carolina; d. September 06, 1935, Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He married MARY SUSAN WILLIAMSON, daughter of JAMES WILLIAMSON and LENA TILLOTSON. She was born November 24, 1861 in Granville County, North Carolina, and died June 06, 1947 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. In 1883, Alonzo and Mary Susan were back in North Carolina. That year Mary Susan inherited a farm from James R. Williamson and she and Alonzo moved back into Mecklenburg County, Virginia. This farm is located (in Virginia) south of Clarksville, Virginia near Stateline Baptist Church. Alonzo and Mary Susan are buried in the Grassy Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Granville County, North Carolina. The Children of ALONZO GARRETT and MARY WILLIAMSON are: LONNIE GARRETT. JAMES H. I have a Garrett ancestor that I can't find any infomation on except who she married and an approximate date. Her name was Rachel and she married the Rev. Benjamin Brown whbo was born at "Four Mile Tree" in Surrey County in the 1700's. He died in 1805 and is buried in St. Johns Church in Hampton Va. Both he and Rachel are buried there. I have not been able to find any more than that. Would you have any information on her or any idea where I may go to find out about her? I do have the date Rachel died, but it is not handy now.
