Hi Dawn, My familiy is predominantly from the counties that I mentioned and I have some of those surnames in my family. There are several of us who are doing research in that area so we kind of have a group website. Most of the name that you mentioned we share in one way or the other. The website address is http://members.tripod.com/~Linda_T . Remember, Sussex was once part of Surry and many of the families lived in that area before going further west and south. My maiden name is Stith. :) I am looking in the Mecklenburg and Charlotte county area because my husband's Harrisons are from there. All that you have to do is check any of the archives, genweb or rootsweb and you will find the names that I mentioned. If you subscribe to either Ancestry or Family Tree Maker Websites, then you can do a search there. I have a copies of Civil War maps of Southampton and Sussex County. The Wells family had a farmer near Stoney Creek and one not far from the Greensville and Dinwiddie County lines. Also, many families from your area migrated to southern NC. Some families settled in the Union and Anson Counties areas. Some of the other surnames that you will find in Sussex County are Mason, Vaughan, Ingram, Maclin, Harrison, Tucker, Goodwyn, Jackson, Winfield, Hicks, Turner, Dillard, Bailey, Newsom, WEstbrook, Magee, Parham, Wrenn, Eppes, Freeman, Robinson, Fields, Hunt, Parsons, Parker, Prince, Chappell, Carroll to name a few. :) Linda
