    3. Hi James, I believe we have a connection with James Williamson & Melinda Murray. I'll need to check my files tonight and get the details. I had thought that James was James R. Williamson instead of James C. Williamson. I have a copy of a court case that arose when James died. It was brought by Jordan at al. against Melinda et al. I don't know why it arose, but it mentioned the names of his children. I understand that Mary Jane Williamson was one of his daughters. Mary Susan was his grand-daughter. I'll send you more of what I have after I check with my files at home. Regards, Randy

    3. Four Mile Tree is in Surry County on the James River. "Four'' miles from Jamestown settlement. It is up the river to the left. It is still there. We went over last year to look at the cemetery (on personal property). We are also from a Jordan line. Fortune Jordan married John Flood who's son Walter Flood married Anne Browne from "Four Mile Tree". phyllis ---------- > From: victoria german <greenvillebelle@yahoo.com> > To: VAMECKLE-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Re: [VAMECKLE] Edward W Yancey 1830-1914 & Catherine Rebecca Newton 1849-1915 > Date: Tuesday, October 19, 1999 10:23 AM > > Can someone tell me where Four Mile Tree in Surry > county is?My ggg Steven Jordan was born in Surry > county in 1790.I also have Garretts, but they are in > SC.Do any of you have a Frank Garrett who married a > Margaret Griffith? > Victoria > > --- Randy Garrett <rgarrett@kgo.csc.com> wrote: > > Hi Martha, > > > > I wish I had information on Rachel Garrett, but I > > haven't pushed my Garrett > > line much past 1860. 3. Hi Martha, I wish I had information on Rachel Garrett, but I haven't pushed my Garrett line much past 1860. This is what I have on the Garretts. Can anyone tell me if the case files for Mecklenburg county are kept at the courthouse in Boydton? If so, how are they accessed? Any help will be appreciated, Kent Elam

    3. Dear list, While I was going over the Court Order Books for Mecklenburg county this afternoon, I came upon a rather humorous notation. In Order Book 10 on page 443, Samuel Puryear is being named surveyor of a particular road. Next to his name in parenthesis is the following, "Samuel Puryear (snuff nose)". As any of you know, the order books, while fascinating, are also pretty stuffy. It took me by surprise. I even had one of the archivists read it to verify that I was not seeing it wrong. You never know what you will find. Thanks to everyone who responded concerning my question about Deed Poll of Trust. Kent Elam

    1. Re: [VAMECKLE] Fw: Wagstaff Family
    2. Yes, we are looking for information which links the Wagstaff family to the Hurt family in Mecklenburg County. We have Mary Wagstaff married to William Hurt in the mid to late 1700's. She was the daughter of Basil Wagstaff. I believe that their son, Wagstaff Hurt is the same that ended up in Dyer County, TN and witnessed the marriage of William Hurt and E. Bowers in Nashville, TN in 1829. He would have been Wagstaff's nephew. The father of William Hurt may have been William Hurt, brother of Wagstaff. Does this tally with your information? Judith K. There was an article submitted to the two legacy books published by the Person County Historical Society. As I recall their line came from a John Wagstaff who supposedly was born in 1725 in England; was married to a Mary Wagstaff and had the following children: Kit, Byrd, Britton, and Basie Wagstaff. Britton Wagstaff settled in Person County ca. 1800/1810 when he bui lt his home there. Best regards, John Fox Winston-Salem, NC
