Hello, I saw the Moore names, don't know right now but I do have two sets of Moores in my family. One from Montgomery Co,I think the other set is from Caswell CO,they married in with the Edwards family. Some went on to Danville,VA. Hattie Moore is one of the names. Richard
Hi Eunice, Do you have a James H. Moore in your file. I have a letter written in 1889 by my gggrandfather's twin sister and another part of the letter was written be James. He had married Mary Ann Vaughan and was living in Caswell Co. NC. Bill Reynolds Springfield, MO.
No, sorry but I don't recognize the name. I know we had James later on in our Moore family but don't know of any in Caswell County. Sorry. Eunice. I found a will of a Anne Vaughn though a long time ago that named her grandchildren and their last names were Moore. One was Elizabeth Moore I know. I am pretty sure she died in Granville County NC but I will try to find the record if you think there is a connection. Thanks. Thanks JoLee, I thought it was either Elizabeth, widow of Reps J., or possibly the widow of David Elam who purchased the property of Osbourne Elam, Osbourne being from Charlotte co. and possibly the brother of Reps J. Both these men owned property on Woodpecker Creek. I am also researching Moores. They were in Granville County NC from about 1800-1870. I found some of them later in Franklin, Orange, Halifax and Nash counties in NC. I have not been able to connect my ancestors to other Moores in Granville County in early 1800's and wonder if they could have come from Va. the furthest back I have gone is Charles Moor(e) who married Elizabeth Carroll in 1812. His siblings were Temperance, Lemuel, Mary Polly CHAMPION and Sarah "Sally" HARRIS. I would appreciate any information or suggestions on how to break my brick wall on finding Charles' parents. To list subscribers: For those who do not keep their emails, I added the ordering information for the Gilmer 1864 map to the MAPS section of the Mecklenburg home page. Be careful when you order. There is a tri-county map including Mecklenburg; I doubt if it would have the same detail (or details be as readable) as the Mecklenburg map. I ordered mine by phone, and I can't wait! Thanks to Kent Elam for alerting us to this. At 08:27 AM 11/21/1999 , you wrote: >Where did you obtain map? Address would be greatly appreciated. Gary, The map is circa 1864. I found Daniel Elam, brother to my John Elam residing around Little Buffalo Creek, a Mrs Elam (not sure who she is yet), around Woodpecker Creek and an Elam's Mill up in the upper northwest corner of the county almost on the Charlotte line. Any idea which Elam this mill is named after? I can see Yerby's Run (apparently a later rendering) where Irby's Branch should be but, by this time period, our Elams are gone from this area.
