    2. Kent, I contacted the Library of Congress several years ago regarding "The Tobacca Plant" newspaper, I was told that parts of it are available are on microfilm at Duke University, in Chappel Hill, NC. Apparently they have a library that has old diaries and other old newspapers. Unfortunately, I have not contacted them, let me know what you find out. Carolyn

    2. The Library of Virginia, 800 E. Broad St., Richmond, VA would be the place to check for this publication. You might also try the Danville Public LIbrary and see if they know of it, as well.

    3. Dear List, Does anyone know anything about a "trade magazine" or newspaper called The Tobacco Planter that was printed at least as early as 1861. I just recently received a copy of an article printed in the May 1861 edition of The Tobacco Planter. It refered to the "Clarksville Blues" the Civil War Infantry Company from Mecklenburg. Would it be on microfilm? Thanks in advance, Kent Elam PS Thanks to all who contacted me about the "Clarkville Blues"

    2. Kent A. Elam, Jr.
    3. Dear List, I am seeking information about the soldiers of Company E of the 14th Virginia Regiment. I believe they were known as the "Clarksville Blues". I would appreciate any information that would point me in the right direction as to rosters and also battles that this regiment fought in. "Life by the Roaring Roanoke" gives some information but not too many details. I am most curious about the Elams who served in this regiment, namely: Thomas D. Elam, Thomas F(?) Elam, W.A. Elam and H.(Hilary?)E. Elam. I believe that Thomas F. is actually Thomas R. Elam, nephew of Daniel Elam and I believe W.A. Elam is William Andrew Elam, son of Daniel Elam. Daniel Elam (owned land on Little Buffalo Creek) was a life-long resident of Mecklenburg county and guardian to Thomas R. after the death of Thomas' father Andrew G. Elam. Thanks in advance for any help you can give, Kent Elam

    3. Thanks to Kevin LETT,his post--Here is what I have on an Isham Lett but do not know how he ties into the known Lett relationships: In 1759, a land procession record was created by the Vestry of Cumberland Parish. Included in this record were several Letts in the fifth precinct which fell between Mize’s Ford Road, Miles Creek and Mountain Creek Road. James Lett was a processioner in that precinct. Those Letts recorded in the fifth precinct were Francis Lett (John Watson, Sr. was present,) James Lett, Sr. (Jacob Matthews and Isham Lett were present,) James Lett, Jr. (John Lett was present) and John Lett (Francis Lett and John Watson, Sr. were present.) Francis Lett also witnessed the processioning of William Whittemore, also of the fifth precinct.
