Lillian, your listing of Mecklenburg publications is a gold mine! Thank you! Carolyn
Your question is so broad it is difficult to answer. I'll try to do a bit. You give no dates of interest, making it more difficult. 1. Southern Historical Press in SC has published a series of books written by Katherine Elliott that pertain to Mecklenburg. Call 1-800-223-0152 for a catalog. 2. TLC Genealogy in Miami Beach (1-800-858 -8558) has published abstracts of the first six deed books of Mecklenburg. Their catalog is online at http://www.tlc.gen.com. 3. Simmons Historical Publications has published abstracts of Censuses for 1820, 30, 40 & 50, and the personal property tax lists for 1782 & 1784. Write to PO Box 66, Melber, KY 42069 for information. 4. Munsey Moore compiled Cemetery and Tombstone Records for Mecklenburg in Vols 1 & 2. I don't know if they are still in print. Write him at 718 Boyd St, Chase City, VA 23924. 5. For a general history of Mecklenburg, Susan Bracey's "Life by the Roaring Roanoke" is indispensable. It carries a list of Civil War soldiers, in addition to much, much more. Write to the Meck Co Bd of Supervisors in Boydton for information on purchase. Hope this helps. The Vaughan's were certainly involved with the Overbeys in more way than one. The "O" mark on the original will has a line through it. Wonder what that could mean? Thanks for sharing the observation. I had never thought of it as having any significance, other than a mark. JoLee
