Judy I hope this is of help to you. Go to my url and check out Luke Smith pedigree. From what I have found Luke Smith married to Martha was the son of Luke Smith I and Arabella Gromarrin.. there are no known children from this marriage. But maybe I just did not find it. there are several other Luke Smiths for you to check. the son of Obdiah smith and Mary cocke died in NC and the Luke Smith, son of Obadiah smith III. the s/o Luke Smith I, may have married but I don't know. I have writen about Obadiah and Luke Smith in the Tidewater Virginian Families[?]. I expect you can purchase a copy of the two articles. It is listed with a website. You should check me out as I make errors. http://genweb.net/gedcom/WATTS/WATTS.html Sent: Saturday, October 09, 1999 6:18 PM Subject: [VAMECKLE] SMITH, ROBERTS 1758 > I have just come back from Mecklenburg Co. no wiser, necessarily, than > when I > went. I have just come back from Mecklenburg Co. no wiser, necessarily, than when I went. The purpose of my visit was to see if I could discover what the relationship was between Obadiah SMITH, grandson of Obadiah SMITH who made a suit against the heirs of Alexander ROBERTS (who died 1781 in Meck. Co.) and his wife Martha SMITH ROBERTS. In Halifax Co. there is a marriage bond for Alexander ROBERTS and Martha SMITH (widow is written in but evidently some think that SMITH is also her maiden name date of bond is1758). In Lunenburg Co. Luke SMITH Jr. dies in 1757/58 and his wife is Martha. I found enough to know that this is the right Martha SMITH but found nothing to indicate what her maiden name was. Can any one help? Thank you Judie Hines

Oh, yes...that would be important to know wouldn't it!!! He lived between ca 1775-1820. He lived adjacent to other families in Marion County, SC. Families that hailed from Southside Virginia including Mecklenburg/Lunenburg County and before that from Isle of Wight County. Just a hunch, as this surname isn't really all that common. Thanks again! -BH William Hatchell

Hi, had to let you know about this link. At the below site are 960 County land patents and deeds abstracted by "Author: Hudgins." All files in the Deed Data Pool are copyright © 1995-1999 Direct Line Software. <http://www.ultranet.com/~deeds/pool.htm>http://www.ultranet.com/~deeds/pool .htm The land records are abstracted in a "text" form that is recognized by a deed mapping program - obviously in this case, "DeedMapper." When you select the "plot" view, it magically turns into the actual shape of the tract of land. That is...unless you enter a mistake, or the 1700+ surveyor was careless, or the scribe wasn't too concerned about those of us who would today scramble to put all of it together! I have been working on a mapping project of my own for about 6 months. It is a challenge, but great fun if you enjoy that type of thing. This is my first message to the list. I see GREGORYs apparently all over VA and NC, but have been unable to connect my Patience GREGORY to any. She married Simon DRAKE, 1 May, 1817, Wake Co., NC, with B. King as bondsman. An earlier marriage in Wake Co. was Unity Gregory. A marriage of Charles Gregory in Person Co., NC was about the same time as Patience's. These three are linked because they were linked together in a 1954 Manti, Utah temple ordination by Thomas Pritchett whose main line was RICEs of NC. CLARKE stood in as proxy. At this time, Pritchett and Clark had to have been related, and it does state that Pritchett was related to the Gregorys. Is there anything in this site that might link my Patience Gregory to the Gregorys of Va? Shirley Drake Maynard
Good Morning All, I'm in search of the parents of my Robert Harris born VA in 1795, married to Sarah (Sally) Carson in Rockbridge Co. VA in 1818. I've been told that the father of my Robert is Robert Harris and according to census records also born in VA. I found a Robert Harris and Mary White married on Jan. 10, 1791 in Mecklenburg Co. VA. I was hoping that someone could tell me a little about them...who were the children.
