There is a difference between a marriage bond and a permission or consent form. Consents were given by parents for underage couples - usually under 21. Bonds were to assure that there was no reason why the couple could not be married and that they would not become a charity case. Money did not actually change hands but could be called for if the marriage did not fulfill the requirements. Bonds were usually provided by the parents or close relatives of couples, but I've seen instances where the same person gave bonds for several people on the same day, week or month, who didn't seem to have any connection to one another. I have see hand-written permissions connected to the page of bonds/licenses in some courthouses. It can be almost comical at times. Something like, "Grooms father ______ appeared before magistrate and gave permission on _____ for the marriage of his daughter ____ to marry ____." So....it is a mixed bag. You might get a LOT of info, and you might not get much...
