Donna: Shifflett is detailed and factual. It is an excellent book for socio-ecconomic-political background on Louisa County. I relied on it heavily for culture and ecconomic understanding of the area. The book is easy to obtain, but if your local library doesn't have a copy, I had no trouble borrowing it through interlibrary loan. Pattie Cooke's book has a wonderful collection of photographs. It has so many individuals pictured from the Hall murder trial that I specifically recommend it as a companion book to mine. I have not looked at the other books. I have read other of Janice Ambercrombie's works. You can bet her research is top notch.
