I have a little information on the Tyree Harris of Madison Co., KY of whom you were inquiring. Since Christopher Harris, his father, had 19 known [listed in his will] children, I have trouble keeping up with all of them!!! Here are some of my notes, but I have not done census work on this Tyree Harris of Madison Co., KY. I have a more complete bio of Tyree Harris, the probable brother of Christopher Harris. That brother Tyree died testate in Caswell Co., NC at the end of the 1780s. Suggestion: If you have the ability to read the deeds of Madison Co., KY, you may find more interesting information. Even the indexes [grantor and grantee] indexes provide a good many clues about family relationships and locations of land. And intermarriages!! The Family History Library at Salt Lake City has MANY films of land records of Madison Co., which, of course, was the parent county of several other Kentucky counties. E.W.Wallace TYREE HARRIS, son of Christopher. WIR02026. His birthdate of 24 Jun 1751, Hanover Co., VA, apparently unconfirmed, is taken from DAR application 598925. Those of his siblings and most of the marriages are given, indicating the applicant MAY have used a Bible record. His name appears in the 1810 census of Madison Co., not read as of August 1997. This name is given to many Harris males, probably to indicate they were all descended from Robert Harris of colonial Hanover Co. Like the name Overton Harris, it is important to distinguish the dates these various Tyree Harrises lived. According to DAR application 598925, Tyree was a child of the first marriage of his father Christopher Harris and Mary Dabney and was born 24 Jun 1751. The source of this birthdate and others given for Harris children is unknown If this birthdate is correct, it is probable that the following Tyree Harris is not the same one.. Tyree Harris & Sarah Garland, 28 May 1803; Higgason Harris was bondsman; Thomas Garland, father of the bride. Returned 2 Jun 1803. (Bill & Kathy Vockery, Madison County, Kentucky Marriage Records, Vol. I, 1786-1822 [Richmond, KY: Published by authors, 1993], p. 37.) It is noted that the same source lists this marriage: Higgason Harris & Ann Garland, 15 Dec 1800; Jesse McMahan, bondsman; Thomas Garland, father of bride. Return 16 Dec 1800 (p. 37) (We cannot identify Higgason Harris. A tentative conclusion is that he is related to Tyree Harris but not as a brother as he is not listed as a child in the will of Christopher Harris.) Other Tyree Harrises: There was another Tyree Harris of earlier date in Hanover Co., VA as well as one in Caswell Co., NC. In fact, the one in Caswell Co. is fairly well determined to have been a brother of Christopher Harris, but he seemingly was an older brother. He appears a good deal in the records of colonial Louisa Co., VA and is linked with Major Robert Harris, his probable father. An Older Tyree Harris? In the 1782 tax list of Hanover Co., VA (used as basis of "1790 VA census") there is a listing for Tyree Harris in Precinct No. 5, List of Thos. Trevilian, Gent'n. Several listed are shown as "at Beaverdam." Tyree Harris - 6 wh[white] ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
