Thank goodness for a genealogist who recognizes that more than one person can have borne the same name!!! I have to work out the dates--and places--when I find such an event or name. And my lineage is full of common surnames, with many common given names!!! But some people cannot stand to be challenged when you point out this discrepancy to them, and give facts to back up your argument.!!! (Don't confuse me with the facts--my mind is made up). May you find your more modest fellow, Meriwether Smith. Sometimes court records show a person who does not otherwise appear. Nearly everyone sued everyone else, and I am always delighted when I find a female in a court record, although how come she is punished for bearing a bastard child--with lashes on her back. Where is the daddy? I believe there are a few tithable lists which still exist. Do you have access to the online genealogical database called HeritageQuest, which many public libraries subscribe to? PERSI - an index to genealogical periodicals held by the Allen Co. IN Public Library at Fort Wayne IN - is on HeritageQuest. Enlist the help of your local librarian in locating such a public library. Individuals cannot subscribe, but most of the time, if you have a proper library card from a subscribing library, you can access this database at home. (You probably know all this, but some people need to be informed about this database--and request it.) E.W.Wallace ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
