    1. Re: [VALOUISA] Meriwether Smiths
    2. The Poupel/Morddel family
    3. It's a conundrum. I have so far six Meriwether Smiths in Virginia, and I wish I knew if they were all related or not. Here is what I have, with hopes that some of the others on the list can help with corrections and clarifications: 1) Meriwether Smith (1730-1790) son of Francis Smith and Lucy Meriwether, married 1) Alice Lee and 2) Betsy Dangerfield. This is the Essex Meriwether Smith, the history book Meriwether Smith. 2) Meriwether Smith, son of the above and Betsy Dangerfield 3) Meriwether Smith (1769-1838), son of William Smith and Elizabeth Young. He married Sally Payne, had ten children, and died in Roane County, Tennessee, where there was also John Smith T, who was a cousin to the Essex Meriwether Smith. (Is this Meriwether your ggg grandfather, Cricket?) 4) Meriwether Smith, son of the above. 5) Meriwether Smith (1769-1823) son of Bartelot/Bartlett Smith and Frances Anderson. He married Judith Woodson Chiles (d. 1818) and stayed in Louisa County, had ten children, whose guardian was William F. Toler. (This one is my ggg grandfather) 6) Meriwether Woodson Smith, (1805-1837) son of the above, married Ann McGehee, went to Texas and fought and died there. No children, so no more Meriwethers from him, anyway. Those are all that I have, though I am sure there are more. Any and all comments and corrections are most appreciated.
