I have that the Joel Timberlake who married Mary Thompson in 1814 was the son of Phillip Timberlake and Jean Peers. This Joel Timberlake's sister, Catherine Timberlake, married Araham Fletcher in Louisa County in 1794. By the census of 1830 they had moved to Montgomery Co. TN in the census of 1830. This couple lived in the McLane House, which was associated with Thompsons in Louisa County: Catherine & Abraham Fletcher are my third gr grandparents. Quoted from "Old Home Places of Louisa County" Page 153, McLane House This charming little house is located south of Louisa courthouse on the north side of Route 630 near Harris Creek. It stands on the 100 acres of land, which Thomas Johnson sold to William Thomason in 1774. The land was probably part of the 5120 acre courthouse tract, which Thomas Johnson, often called "Major" purchased in 1752 from James and Sarah Littlepage A. and Robert and Mary Jennings. William Thomason, who bought the McLane House property in 1774, was the son of George and Mary Pollard Thomasson. William and his wife, Sarah, evidently resided at McLane House until their deaths. In 1800 Joseph Bullock, purchased the property from William's estate, and, with his wife, Ann ("Nancy") Edwards Bullock, sold it that same year to Abraham Fletcher. In 1794, Abraham had married Catherine Timberlake, daughter of Philip Timberlake, and the Fletchers made their home at McLane House until 1826, when they sold it to Henry Lawrence of Horse Shoe. Like nearby Cosby House, McLane House was owned briefly by Garrett M. Quarles and by Mary Jane Lawrence and her husband, Dr. Benjamin Morris Francisco, before it was purchased in 1835 by Nathaniel Thompson. Nathaniel died in 1843, and the following year Charles B. Cosby bought McLane House. Charles Cosby had acquired Cosby House from the Thompsons in 1842 and made his home there. Therefore, he deeded McLane House to Edward Cosby, who was probably his brother. Edward and his wife resided at the old house for many years. When he died in 1862, his daughter, Martha L. Cosby, who married James P. Boyd, received the property. A year later, she sold the house to John P. Mann. McLane House has changed hands frequently since then, being owned in turn by Patrick Martin, Lindsay C. Perkins, W. C. H. Mattox, Eula Elizabeth McLane and her heirs, and Willie E. and Lula Jerldene Moon. Today the old house belongs to John R. Jr. and Irnell D. Maddox. A fine example of the country's 18th-century dwellings, McLane House has one and one half stories, a sharply pitched roof, a fully raised brick basement, tall, double-shouldered, brick end chimneys, and both front and back porches. The only attic lighting comes from small, four-pane windows on each side of both chimneys. > Donna, or anyone else who has a copy of "Old Home Places of Louisa > County," I am sorry. I don't have a copy of the book, which is out of print. I just was given a copy of the one page on the McLane House. You might inquire at the Louisa genealogy association and/or a Louisa library. One additional thought: Perhaps your local library could get it for you through interlibrary loan. Donna
