Louisa Co. was formed in 1742 from Hanover County. Your family member could not have born in Louisa Co. earlier than that. Hanover Co. records are largely missing, but some church records and a few court records still survive. But don't forget the surrounding counties. Knowing the genealogy of counties is VERY important. My book entitled ATLAS OF COUNTY BOUNDARY CHANGES IN VIRGINIA 1634-1895 by Michael F. Doran is getting dog-eared. I recommend that if you are doing a LOT of Virginia research [most Southerners have Virginia roots, at least some of them], I highly recommend you try to acquire this book before the price goes up. My copy was published by Iberian Publishing Company, Athens, GA in 1987. Iberian Publishing Co. no longer has that name. The current name is New Papyrus Co., Athens, GA. _www.genealogyresources.org_ (http://www.genealogyresources.org) Doing without a few Starbucks overpriced products may help you purchase this book. VERY useful if you are serious about genealogical research. Each day products made of plastic and paper go up in price, not to mention food.
