Ruby, always glad to hear from you. My Hawkins line was connected a little bit with the Cole and Bibb surnames. I find my Hawkins's in Orange county in the 1700's and in the 1800's until my Thomas R. Hawkins dies in 1885. But Thomas lives much of his life at Mallory's Ford which adjoins Louisa County. Mallory's Ford seems to have been an important ford across the North Anna on a road that ran from Orange Courthouse to a destination in Louisa county. Thomas R. Hawkins's son, Edward Pinkard Hawkins, raised his children on a farm in Louisa County. But the connection to the two surnames is the following: Bibb: after the death of Thomas R. Hawkins's first wife, Matilda Pinkard. He married for a second time, Martha P. Bibb 18 Feb 1839. The marriage took place in Louisa County. According to the marriage record, Martha's father was Benjamin Bibb. Cole: Thomas R. Hawkins had an uncle named Benjamin with whom he had many dealings. They were so close in their everyday dealings that I suspected them to be father and son until I found Benjamin's will. Benjamin Hawkins seemed to have been a neighbor of a man named William Cole as in his will he says: > 6th I give to Susanna (?) Marshall that portion of my land which I > laid off to sell to John Todd being bounded by the lands of Charles > Scott, William Cole deceased, and Coleman Marshall and the branch that > runs from the public road to Coleman Marshalls tan yard also this > other half of my household furniture to her and her heirs forever. Benjamin died in 1851....but I don't have the date of his will in my head...I'll have to look it up if you are interested in more information. However this William Cole would have lived in Orange County to have been a neighbor of Benjamin's....but again....in the part of Orange County that borders Louisa County and had an easy ford nearby. If you have more information on these people, I would love to hear from you....and I am happy to share what little I have on these people. marsha in WV RUBYGEM@aol.com wrote: > >In a message dated 7/11/2007 12:11:07 P.M.
