Another research buddy and I have been chatting about Elijah Hawkins this month. While we have chatted it has become apparent that there may have been more than just one Elijah Hawkins in the late 1700's and early 1800's. I am trying to sort them out a little bit and would appreciate any help that anyone has to aid me in this project. I have accumulated a bit of information about the Elijah who married Elizabeth Scott 8 Jan 1807. But there are also marriage records in Louisa County for and Elijah and Ann Hill 29 Jan 1787 and Elijah and Polly McCallister 1805. Now I guess that Elijah could have had three wives in that time period....in which case there is only one Elijah..... In may 2007 I was looking at personal property tax in Orange county, vA. there is a list of titheables in 1783 who are above the age of 16 and below the age of 21. Elijah Hawkins is on this list. This would fix his date of birth as between 1762 and 1767. It is not for certain that this is the Elijah who married Elizabeth Scott as I have no birth date for that Elijah. The Elijah who is in the 1783 tax list seems to be in the household of John Hawkins....not Nicholas Hawkins. Other researchers have connected the Elijah who married Elizabeth Scott with father Nicholas Hawkins with wife Elizabeth Jones. Another researcher has said that Nicholas married to Elizabeth Jones had father Benjamin and I had jotted down that Benjamin married to Ann Bourne had son named Benjamin married to Elizabeth Harmon.....but all of these things are silly rumblings....I really have no clue!
