Dan, I understand what you are saying. There are so many missing records from Caroline and surrounding counties so I am not sure they can ever be sorted out. In looking at the census I think Polly of Henry and Sarah is younger than the one that married Stephen Houchins. That maybe was his second marriage? I have found only 2 Pollys: One the daughter of James Chiles, she married Tandy Willoughby (assorted spellings) in 1815 in Orange Co.; one who was the daughter of Henry & Sarah Chiles, she was also listed in a law suit between Sarah (her mother) and Tarlton & Fleming (her half brothers, 10 Aug 1803, Caroline Co.). Where did you find Polly listed as Mary? I have found numerous Marys so that is a big problem. I am having lots of trouble sorting the Chiles. I have a Henry Chiles who shows up in Louisa Co. about 1799 and disappears after 1820. I have his children from a son's will but no wife. My Henry has a son Tarlton but not the one in Caroline Co. Tarlton (mine) moved to MO; the other one moved to KY. Sorry I can't be of more help.
