I have two questions concerning the present day population of Native Americans in Louisa Co. The 1990 census statistices show 65 residents of Louisa Co. who claimed American Indian as their national origin. The census maps show them concentrated in the south central part of the county; south the town of Louisa and centered generally around Yanceyville. This is census tract 9504. There is also a small concentraton west south west of Louisa. 1. Does anyone know if these people are the descendants of Indians who inhabited the area before 1800, or are they later arrivals. If so, from where? 2. Does anyone know the tribal ties they claimed. The 1990 census asked, but that statistical data is not yet available.
