With regard to the use of "inmate" to denote people living in a household, this is just my opinion, but I think the census taker was being a bit fanciful, perhaps in the absence of any instructions. Also this is the only census that I have seen in which the wife (or lady of the house) has been call "landlady". That is usually taken to mean someone who is running an establishment of rental property, such as a rooming house, etc. Ruby Talley Smith
