I have finally heard from a son of Dr. Malcolm HARRIS. Good News and Bad News. His son, James, is the executor of his Mother's estate who died recently. He was also the executor of his father's estate. There are some legal issues to resolve. It seems one of the sisters is claiming that her father left the copyright of the Louisa book to her. Now James said that when his father was alive he gave the book responsibility to his wife. She was the one who mailed them out and saw to the publisher, etc. Since she has passed away now the family is trying to settle the estate. He says that there is other more important issues to settle first. Of course we understand that. The the bad news: ...we'll have to wait until the family sorts out the copyright issue with this sister. If she really does have the copyright then the permission to reprint will come from her. When I spoke to her she was concerned about money. He said he would speak to her about that. The good news: James actually has his father's research. He said there was more left out of these books than was put into them. Can you imagine? Because of cost, his father had to decide what to include and what to leave out. He said that he actually went to cemetery's and interviewed descendants with bible's etc. In conclusion: The books by Dr. HARRIS will be reprinted. He wrote the History of New Kent as well as the History of Louisa and some others. I offered to help with this project, just to see the books printed again. He said he gets an average of 3 calls a week about his dads books. He is a researcher and historian and is planning to do something about reprinting his father's work. He isn't as concerned about the money as he is about fulfilling the need. He asked that I give him 2-6 months to finish out his mother's estate. In this time he will talk with his sister, try to find the copyright, etc. He wants to have the legal issue of copyright resolved. They have an attorney looking into it to determine if the sister does have the copyright. We just have to be patient. Maybe we'll be able to encourage him to add some more of the original research into the book. Who knows. We need to keep adding names to the list who wants the book. I told him we're at about 100 and he said that there is more than that for both books. This has been fun, I'll keep you posted when I talk to him again in a few months. Until then we must wait.
