    3. Hi William: My 5-great grand mother was Susannah Thomson (1728-1833)of Louisa Co., VA. She married Moses Clack circa 1763 in Louisa Co. She died in Barren Co. , KY. Moses was a 4-year Revolutionary War vet. Susannah was the daughter of Thomas Thomson (1718-1774)and Hannah McAllister. Thomas was descendant of Samuel Thomson/Helen Glass; Samuel Thomson; William Thomson; Samuel Thomson, b. 1613, Avondale Scotland. Interested? 2. Thomas JOHNSON was the s/o Nicholas JOHNSON & Elizabeth HUDSON. He was called "Sheriff" because he held that job in Louisa Co, VA in the 1780s. He died in 1803. He was married to Elizabeth MERIWETHER the d/o of Thomas and Elizabeth Thornton MERIWETHER. She died in 1812. Roundabout Castle then passed to their son Thomas JOHNSON, noted in records as Thomas JOHNSON "S. S." (Son of Sheriff). This Thomas JOHNSON died in 1842. I tried to send a picture of Roundabout Castle in response to the first query and the website administrators are debating as to whether it can go thru. If it does not I will try to send more info some other way. Ruby Talley Smith _rubygem@aol.com_ (mailto:rubygem@aol.com) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. Re: [VALOUISA] ROUNDABOUT CASTLE
    2. I know nothing of Roundabout Castle - when and where? You say you are looking for Thomas Johnson, but you did not give any dates, if I remember correctly. At any rate, a recently published book, info given below, has a good many references in court records to a Thomas Johnson, and a goodly number of other Johnsons. Janice Abercrombie, LOUISA COUNTY, VIRGINIA JUDGMENTS 1766-1790 [Athens, GA: Iberian Publishing Company, 1998] Iberian Publishing has changed its name to New Papyrus Publishing and is still in Athens, GA. They have a webpage. Use a search engine, such as google.com Another author, who has transcribed a good many early colonial records of Louisa Co., (and her books sometimes include maps), is Rosalie Edith Davis of Manchester, MO. Her books are quite inexpensive. I highly recommend them if you have people in Louisa Co. in the early days. Here is her website: _http://www.angelfire.com/va3/redavis/_ (http://www.angelfire.com/va3/redavis/) (If punctuation appears at the beginning and end of the URL, remove those marks before pasting in your search blank.) I am unable to do look-ups. Besides, the judgments mentioned above are mostly rather lengthy. Since you have a common surname (and I have lots of them), you probably have a long job ahead of you. Good luck! E.W.Wallace ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Wow! Thank you very much to the Wrights! I shall have to look up as many of these sources that I can access from where I live...Idaho. My 1st VA Light Dragoon soldier is John Lipscomb, who was in Captain Cuthbert Harrison's unit (2nd Troop) of Bland's Light Dragoons. My John's father was William Lipscomb, Sr. of Hanover County...his son John was born after Louisa County was formed from part of Hanover County. John Lipscomb (Sr) married Sarah Smith and is buried in SC (near Gaffney). John Lipscomb Sr. and Sarah Smith's seventh child was Nancy Lipscomb who married my Dr. Zachariah Nance in SC. There was a second John Lipscomb in the First VA Light Dragoons, a corporal in Captain Belfield's Troop; he married Elizabeth (daughter of Ambrose Lipscomb), and is buried in VA James Stone jandsstone@cableone.net Wish I knew some of this stuff when I was in high school in Prince George County, VA. 2. Lois, You mentioned Elizabeth P. Is that P for Pettus? When I visited the old John Pettus place overlooking the N. Anna about 10 years ago, it was owned by Mr. Billy Swift. He told me that one of John's descendants had married a Swift in the 19th C. Swift's wife inherited the Pettus estate, which overlaps the northeastern corner of Louisa and the northwestern corner of Hanover on Little Rocky Creek. 3. Terri, Do you know the names of Hannah Barnett's parents or her siblings? I'm researching the family of William Barnett and Frances/ Fanny Jones. They moved from Louisa Co., VA about 1803 and settled in Leaksville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina. I'm trying to find a marriage place and date for their daughter Frances/ Fanny Jones Barnett to my ggg- grandfather, Richard Shelton. This took place after 1803 and before 1808. Frances Jones Barnett was b. 2 Dec., 1790 in Louisa Co and Richard Shelton was born in Dec. 1779 in Louisa County, VA. I do not have any info on Richard's parents or siblings to help with the search.
