Ladies and gents : I have spoken to many of my family whom have been nicknamed Fannie over the years and not one of them have ever actually been named Fannie or anything even remotely related like Frances or anything like Fannie. SO keep inmind that people chose nicknames sometimes based on absolutely nothing we can think of now. I also had an aunt nicnamed "Pram" we still cannot figure that one out and wait until a 100 years from now and let the people figure out how my relatives wonder how my younger sister became "CONITA"?? Do you think they will figure out that as a 10 year old , my parents had already had 7 kids and allowed me to help name this one and I made up the name using half of my best friends name COnnie and half of my mothers first cousin's name Venita?? I do not think so! Believe me, no one else has my sisters name! So good luck y'all. alyce in minnesota. Of course I am interested in the TALLEY connection but also the BIBBs as I descend from both families. I also have from another source that Joel ESTES who married Elizabeth BIBB --- valouisa-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > ____________________________________________________________________________________ Food fight? I have either a John or William Newton that married Melvinia Bumpass I think in the 1830's in Louisa Co.. They had a son John William Bumpass Newton born in 1839. I am unable to find anything on either of their parents or any other children they may have had. John William Bumpass Newton married Barbara Boxley and they lived in Hanover Co. any help would be appreciated Pat ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
I have a lot of info on Meriwether Smith of Essex Co, VA, with sources. What do you want to know? ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Those speculating about Merriwether Smith in Virginia may get some help [or continued errors] with a google.com search. search terms merriwether [or variant spelling] smith + virginia Also, Polly is a nickname for Mary. Does that help? Many of us have no maiden names for our ladies. Many a genealogist makes a good fee by lecturing at conferences about how to find ladies' maiden names. Sometimes their techniques work, and other times the lecture is worth listening to, but in many cases does not work with the techniques mentioned. Sometimes it helps to check out the surnames of the neighbors and the names of their daughters--and check their wills, probates, deeds of gift, etc. (I find deed books in some cases help me find maiden names for ladies.) The daughters may get a deed of gift of a slave--called personalty in some deed indexes. If you are near a Virginia courthouse or can order a film of a deed index of, say, Virginia, Kentucky [a sister sate of Virginia] or North Carolina, get hold of a deed index, either grantee or grantor. After you find your surname in the index: Look in the last column of the index for words like deed of gift, or, in some cases, as later in Kentucky, commissioners deeds. Most of the time, you will find that because deed indexes are used all the time by title searchers, the indexes have been typed and alphabetized, and, in many cases, are easy to read, even on microfilm. Good luck! E.W.Wallace ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
I do have two male Talley cousins who would qualify. They are Ross Talley and William (Bill) Talley of Princeton Ky. I dont stay in touch with them much and dont have any idea if they would do the test. Ross actually lives in Murray Ky and Bill in Princeton, Ky. Bill might do the test and they would be direct line links to Billey Talley since it is their granddad who was my grandma Bailey's brother. You might give them a try.Tell them I asked you to do this. I have only one, Joseph Carr Eggleston, but it looks as if he could have been a nephew or some such to the one you mention. Does anyone know where this one is buried, please? Thank you. Thank you but the Meriwether Smith (and there were more than one) I am researching is not the illustrious one of Essex (1730-1790) but the one of Louisa County (1769-1823), a more modest fellow. My ancestor is Polly Chiles I think Julie is her sister. She married Stephen Houchins in Nov 1810 Louisa Va. They sold their property in Louisa to Merriwether Smith and Wife Julie in 1818 This property is next to that owned by Henry of which I believe Julie inherited. I have been trying to find out who Polly's father is. I believe it is same daughter Polly and sister Julie from Henry, Caroline County who died in 1803 . So far no definite proof. Your thoughts will be most helpful. Dan McGuire ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

And certainly lots of inter-connections with many families in the area, as so many families were so very large. Ken Thompson Hi Ken, we have corresponded before. I descend from Nathan TALLEY. As for a connection between Hanover and Louisa Counties, they are adjacent to each other and in addition, Louisa was formed from Hanover in 1742, so of course there will be families with connections from both counties.
