    1. [VALOUISA-L] Offical Announcement from SLC
    2. Bonnie Favazza
    3. The Church Headquarters, in Salt Lake City, have finally made the first OFFICIAL announcement about the FamilySearch® Internet Genealogy Service. There has been much speculation & many erronious posts to various places on the Internet about this but now you can read the OFFICIAL announcement on the Church website. This announcement can be viewed at http://lds.org/en/4_News_Update/19990304_FIGS.html . To verify it is an offical LDS website announcement, choose any of the choices from the task bar shown & you can get back to the homepage. There is also a logo displayed with the Church name visible. Memos to Family History Center Directors were sent out about a month ago so we did not know "officially" about this until then either. Also, this does not specify what services will be available nor does the FHC memo. We will just have to wait & see. Bonnie F. [email protected]

    1. [VALOUISA-L] Cuckoo - Three Mile Corner
    2. Evans Peay
    3. One of my ancestors, John Peay, bought land from Isham Watkins and Elizabeth in 1784. The land was bounded by Sam Waddy's Corner, John winston's Line, John Walton's corner, and was on the branches of Cub Creek (not Cubb creek). This would now be best described as midway between Cuckoo and Three Mile Corner, about 1/2 mile south of state Hwy 33 (Formerly Louisa Rd) Are there any cemeteries in that area (btw Cuckoo and 3 mile corner) that I might find relatives buried? Some of the other names of folks living in the area in 1868, and prior, I believe, are Pendleton, Sims, Simms, Walton, Winston. The Peay family married into Pendleton and Sims families, but I am especially interested in the Peays. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Evans Peay Clarksville, TN

    3. I know with the 'millions' of HARRIS in Louisa, that not only must I knock down this brick wall, but I must, then, find the needle in the harristack!! I have been looking for Robert Frederick M. N. HARRIS. He was born anywhere from 1810-1824. The first record I have of him is marriage in 1851, Goochland, to Julia Ann CLEMENTS(dau of Isham W. CLEMENTS/Cary HICKS). This record gives name as Frederick M. 1860 census name is Robert;1870 name is Frederick M.N. Children's birth and marriage records vary as to Robt./RF/FMN--ages change also. SO---WHY AM I WRITING THE LOUISA LIST YOU MIGHT WELL ASK??? I have another marriage, 1850, of Abner T. HARRIS/ Mary E. CLEMENTS(sister to Julia) in Goochland. 1860 census gives Abner's birthplace as Louisa Co. I am taking a little time to trace Abner T. in hopes that he is probably related to RFMN in some way and thus, will help me find my elusive ancestor. Any help you can give to boost this search along will be greatly appreciated. Jackie

    3. My GGGrandmother Susan Ann Johnson was born about 1830. She died in Louisa Co. MAY 21, 1909. She married Edward D. Jones In Louisa Co. JAN 26, 1850. Her parents were Thomas J. and Nancy Johnson. Thomas died in 1846. Nancy lived until the 1870s. Her siblings included Thomas, Frank, Bertha and Nancy Ann. According to family story, the Johnsons were Cherokee Indians who had fled North Carolina during the removal in 1838 and ended up in Louisa Co. This is substantiated by (1) a photograoph of Susan taken about 1900 that shows her facial features as strongly Native American; and (2) the 1850 and 1860 censuses shown Nancy and the Children with her as Mulatto (mixed race). By 1870 all members of the family are listed as White. The story is contradicted by evidence that all members of the family consistently showed Virginia as their birthplace. I am searching for any information about this family. Also, I am interested in information about Indians in Louisa Co. in the 19th century. Either transplants from elsewhere or remnants of the native Monacans. == _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
