Does anyone have a copy, or access to "Genealogy of the Page Family in Virginia" by Dr. R.C. Page, Published 1893? If so, I would really appreciate some information from page 239 about Henry Pendleton. Thanks, Evans Peay Clarksville, TN
Here are the last addresses I have - Louisa Co Hist Society PO Box 1172 Louisa, VA 23093 Orange County Hist Society 104 W. Main St Orange, VA 22960 - Bev
Could someone tell me a snail mail and/or email address for the Louisa County Historical Society, please? I wish to join the society and am looking especially for Louisa County Historical Magazine for Winter 1991-Volume 22-Number 2 and Spring 1992-Volume 23-Number 1. I also wish to contact the Orange Historical Society should anyone have that address. There doesn't seem to be a list for Orange County yet. I was in the Orange/Louisa area last week with my 2 sons visiting Ellis relatives and the Allens at Pine Park. We also went to the old Ellisville Church and several other places locally. The weather was wonderful and the area still as beautiful (if not more so) than when I first saw it over 40 years ago. Barbara Phillips Ellis Greeley, Colorado [email protected]
Has anyone ever seen ANY reference to an Andrew Peay in Louisa Co, VA? If he existed, he may have been married to a Barbara, and had a child Austin Peay in 1807. I believe, however, that Austin was the son of Anthony and Barbara (Sims) Peay of Louisa Co. I am looking to ascertain who Austin's parents were. I have a doc. that says it was Andrew and Barbara, but I have never found any such Andrew in Louisa Co or otherwise, therefore I believe it was Anthony and Barbara, but am looking for proof of either. Any help/hints appreciated! Evans Peay Clarksville, TN

I have recently discovered that Joel Walton is my GGGGG Grandfather. He seems to be quite well known by those researching relatives in Louisa Co, and I understand he was a Revolutionary War Soldier. What exactly makes him so well known by everyone? And what information is available about him? Thanks, Evans Peay Clarksville, TN

Having just posted my first query on this list, I was delighted to receive so many responses! Unfortunately, I had already tried everything suggested, except to check the University of Richmond itself. I should mention for the benefit of others interested in Goldmine Baptist Church that the Virginia Baptist Historical Society does have those records from 1910 on, for those who are looking in a later time frame. Thanks for your responses. Ethel Smith

Most Baptist Church records have been consolidated at the University of Richmond - you can call there and see if they have any from that Church. Bev << > At 10:01 AM 03/27/1999 +0000, Ethel J. The Virginia Baptist Historical Society at The University of Richmond has an extensive collection. They could probably help. Don Ethel J. Several of my Tribble ancestors were miners in Louisa. In fact, James Festus (Fess) Tribble were supposedly killed in a mining accident. This would have been around the turn of this century. I would appreciate any insights. Don Kierson Jackie & Walter Brooks wrote: > > I, too, would be interested in this information so, please, post to the > list. Wayne: Thank you for your request and your note. I suppose I, like many others, have been hoarding information simply because I am not sure anyone else would want to know any of it. Therefore, I would like to add the following tidbits to your stockpile. Dr. Frederick Anderson and Ann Maria Elizabeth Johnson Perkins were parents to 10 children. Of those ten, only three survived past 1865. The deceased children are posted on the Louisa Co. website. The three surviving were: Robert, who never married; Dr. Physick P., who married Henrietta Hackett (d/o Dr. Wm. and Mary P. Johnson Hackett); and Dr. Thomas H., who married Mary Elizabeth Melton. Due to the research of Janice Abercrombie, who found a document listing Dr. Thomas H. Perkins, I was able to connect with one of his descendants, who did not know where Dr. Thomas Henry Perkins belonged. Another line I had been seeking was the Washington family. Ann Maria Elizabeth Johnson's mother was Anne Catherine Harriet Washington. Her parents were Henry and Anne Quarles Washington. Henry's parents were John Washington and Catherine Washington, 4th cousins. John descended from: Catherine descended from: Henry and Mary Bayley John and Mary Massey John and Ann Wykliffe John and Mary Townsend John and Ann Pope Lawrence and Joyce Jones John and Lawrence were brothers, and their parents were Rev. Lawrence and Amphillis Twigden Washington. Although Anne Catherine Harriet Washington was born in Albemarle Co., she lived in Louisa Co. at Roundabout Castle for the 17 years of her marriage to Thomas Johnson. They had 9 children and she died shortly after the birth of their last child in 1820. Hope this information will help someone down the line. My search was made easier by having inherited my 3Ggrandmother's journal. At least I had somewhere to start. Most of my information came through various cousins I found through the internet. Best, Jan Stark
Greetings, Over the past year, I have had three or four people, um, "suggest" that I don't have any information to help researchers who are looking for "non-free" ancestors. Since I'm only a volunteer, trying to provide a medium to help others with their research (and still find time to do a little of my own), I would appreciate any help you can provide. This is an area that I have no experience in. If any of you have conducted research on any of the black, Indian, etc. residents of Louisa County, I would appreciate if you would share your knowledge of how you conducted your research, and what sources you learned to be valuable assets. Also, if you have any information you would like to share with others, please send it to me so I can post it. Sometimes a little tidbit that I come across, which seems to be totally worthless, later turns out to be the link I needed to add another generation. Thank You, and Good Luck to All, Wayne Dunn [email protected]
Does anyone on this list know if there are any existing records for the old Goldmine Baptist Church during the 1860-1885 time frame? I am trying to find some indication of recorded birth, baptism or perhaps attendance for the daughters of James Thomas Dickinson and second wife Mary Jane Ellyson. They were Virginia (Virgie) G. b. 1866?, Mary Estelle b. 1868? and Ethel St. Clair (my grandmother) b. 1870? The family always thought Grandmother was born August 18, 1872 but marriage record and census records indicate an earlier date. I was told that the Dickinson family were members of Goldmine Baptist Church for many years, and since I can't locate any birth records I have to look elsewhere. James Thomas Dickinson was the son of James Cole and Mary Sandidge Dickinson, of Belle Isle in the Elk Creek area, and he lived at Palo Alto near Fredericks Hall. School records during that time frame would also help, if any exist, especially since Mary Jane Dickinson apparently taught school for a while, or at least applied for a teaching job in Louisa. I have no information about her later years after 1884 and don't know when and where she died, although I know James Thomas Dickinson moved to Richmond and died there in 1895. I also would like to locate the old Dickinson-Kuyper family cemetery at the site of Belle Isle, well hidden in the woods near the Claybrooke tree farm on Route 618 near Contrary Creek. If anyone has even a clue how to find it, please let me know. My cousins and I have searched twice without success! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
