    1. [VALOUISA-L] OUR TRIP
    2. Bill Mozingo
    3. Hello Family and Friends, Well, in about a month we will be in your neck of the woods milling, meeting and eating about trying to make sense of our new temporary surroundings and landmarks. We have heard that West Virginia and Virginia are beautiful states and we intend to prove it. We are going to try and see and do as much as possible with everyone and everything. I will be in Norman, Oklahoma for the next 3 weeks but home on weekends but no worry, I will be taking my computer with me so I can get email up there NO NEED TO CHANGE EMAIL ADDRESS FOR ME. Normally we don't like to get too organized for a trip because we like the adventure of planning on the fly but on this particular trip (first of it's kind) since we are unfamiliar with the areas that we will be visiting and the amount of tasks to be accomplished we will have to plan more than normal. With this in mind it would be nice if it would be possible for some advance preparation on your part if it is not to much to ask. We don't want you to go through alot of trouble and interrupt your routines but whatever you can do ahead of time would be greatly appreciated. If you can write down information or get copies of documentary forms (whatever you already have in your possession) birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates etc. Needless to say we will be taking many pictures. Once you read the list below you will understand why this will be somewhat of a whirlwind vacation. I will also be bringing my computer and software so if you are having any problems with your computer I can probably clear them up in a jiffy and give it a quick check if you like. We will be departing here on May 11 so we will be in Virginia probably on the 14th or so. In addition to seeing and visiting with everyone we would also like to accomplish the following on our trip: HUNTINGTON, WV: (first time back since 9/54) -Visit St. Mary's Hospital where I was born 3/16/54 -Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center where Dad was assigned from 52 to 54 (visit the CO) he is suppose to have some old documents for me to look through. -Some of the addresses that I have while they lived there ROANOKE, VA. Mozingo and Leslie A. Chittum -Allegheny County to find out what happened to Charles T. Mozingo, he disappeared after 1860 (civil war?) 2. Ann Avery Hunter
    3. In 1850 Henrietta HACKETT, age 6, is with her parents William R. and Mary (step-mother) HACKETT. William R. is a physician, age 33, and his wife Mary is 22. Other children include Lucy, age 11, Colin J., age 9, and Mary, age 5. In 1860 Henrietta HACKETT, age 17, is living in the home of Samuel P. HACKETT and his wife Clarissa [Woolfolk]. Colin and Mary are also there. Samuel P. HACKETT was one year younger than William R. in the 1850 census, so he looks very much like a brother. Since William R. died in 1853, his children, minus Lucy, seem to be living with their uncle. [email protected] wrote: > > Hello: Has anyone ever seen anything on Dr. William R. 1. [VALOUISA-L] Matthew Thompson-b ca 1750 Va-prob Louisa
    2. I am still searching for a Matthew Thom(p)son b ca 1750 who may have been the son of a John Thom(p)son, who in 1770 acted as executor for the estate of Mary CHILES howle in Caroline Co., Va. He is known to have married in about 1773 to Sarah Wyatt( b ca 1753) , the d/o of Richard Wyatt and his second wife Amy Chiles. Shortly after their marriage they removed from Caroline Co to Louisa Co, Va wheere in 1775 the names of Matthew Thompson appears on the list of Trinity Parish titheables. In Oct 1778 Matthew Thompson of Caroline Co purcases land from Wm and Mary Wright, bounded by the lines of Wm. Cole, James Gooch, John Bibb, and Thom. McCallester of Louisa Co to Matthew thompson of trinity Parish, Louisa Co., Va. The land was on Christopher's Run and was part of a parcel of land originally patented by George Thom(p)asson. Matthew died intestate in 1785 and his estate remained unappraised until 26 Jan 1790 shortly before his wife remarried to Augustine(Austin) McGeehee, a widdower with children of his own. Their marriage date was 9 Feb 1790. Down the years children from both of their previous marriages married one-another!! Is it possible that this Matthew has a brother named George Thom(p)son in Louisa Co, or nearby, as another of my forebears grandson, Benjamin Lane, s/o of Henry, grandson of John Layne and Elizabeth Ayers Lane acted as an overseer for a plantation owned by George Thompson in 1750 time frame??? This Benj Lane- died young and w/o progeny. Any and all suggestions as to the family of Matthew Thompson would be more than welcome- my cousin has been up against this same wall for over twenty years and I just know we can help her break it down much as Reagan broke down the wall in Germany. SMILE!!!!!!!!!!! thanks much Alyce Hart

I do not know who the parents of James Quarles were. He was born in 1737 and died in 1824. In 1767 he moved from King William County to Albemarle County where he bought property. He also lived in Fluvanna County after the Revolution and died at his daughter Ann (Quarles) Washington Tinsley's place in Goochland County. James Quarles was married to Mary Pryor and they had four children that I know: Robert Quarles (who married Patsy Minor), John Quarles (who married Rebecca Minor), Thomas Quarles, and Ann Quarles who first married Henry Washington and then married John Tinsley. The Minor girls were sisters and daughters of Garrett Minor and his wife Mary Overton Terrell of Louisa County. I'd love to find out who the parents of James are. The pension file records in the National Archives apparently include some information of this James Quarles but also include information for another James Quarles of King William County. The key may be a granddaughter of a James Quarles by the name of Elizabeth Quarles (born about 1800) who was the second wife of John Pryor (his first wife ran off with a "French dancing instructor" according to the Richmond Enquirer and became the mother of the well-known John C. Fremont). Elizabeth (Quarles) Pryor was about 50 years younger than her husband Col. John Pryor. After Pryor's death she married A. Lake and then moved to Boston. Her letters are in the National Archives pension file for James Quarles. I'm not certain she's the granddaughter of "my" James Quarles, so that's why I mention that there may be several James Quarleses who are intertwined in the National Archives files. Best wishes. -Jay Lieske
