Thanks - it does clear one thing for me if the John who died in 1805 was the John who married Mary Bibb. He did have a wife Mary. There are definite Atkins - Bibb tie-ins too. Also, I mentioned that Robert married Frances Panal and/or Bibb, but I have a Louisa date for Robert with Frances Parrish and I think from what Idonna says, it was Parrish. Oh well. Those Grooms definitely loved being grooms, didn't they? Pat Snyder
Hi All, i am looking for info on the Ware family of Louisa. (1) Dudley Ware, m. Elizabeth Harris. (2) Nathan Ware, m. Martha Talley, (3) Thomas Andrew Ware,m. Sallie Wilson, (4) Walter W. Ware, m. Lucy Wingfield,(5) Walter N. Ware, m. Ellen Wade (my parents). These are my ancestors and I do have some info on 2 through 5. I would appreciate any help I can find. Nancy Oliver [email protected]
Blake, and everyone - Didn't Robert of Wm and Dorothy Mathison (Madison) marry Frances Panal and/or Bibb? Then why would Robert who married Susannah in Msex county name his son Enoch Madison Groom? Anyone got any ideas on this? Incidentally, Blake - in William m. Mathison (Madison), add Richard listed in his mother's will. Thanks, Pat Snyder
Hi, You two sent some great info - did I e-mail you? I think I sent it to another VA roots line. Can you give me your e-mail? I would very much like to talk to you about the Grooms - and I think Idonna Coffelt would too. Thanks for your info - It may be the break we are looking for. Please do contact us. Pat Snyder
Lucille and Floyd just reported a land sale from Henry.M. Groome and Elizabeth in Augusta Co. 1813. The date is perfect. He probably died shortly after that since she was with her father John ATkins Jr. in 1820. This may be the one I am looking for (Mr. "Mysterious) who married Eliz Atkins c.1799. Does anyone lay claim to Henry M? Some other Elizabeth? I feel like someone is going to say, "Oh no, that's Elizabeth SoandSo." My one problem iw that the deed says Groome, which doesn't match the Groom who lived with her father in John Atkins pension app nor the Groom my Grandmother talked about. However, I know, it "ain't necessarily so". Does anyone know by chance if this Henry is a desc of William and Dorothy Mathison? Could he be connected with PA Grooms, specifically Solomon who moved on to KY? Eliz and "Mysterious" had a son Solomon - the one who married Harris and Chiles, and the daughter Elizabeth who married Achilles - (My Achilles heel too - since I don't know which of he Atkins clan he belongs to - possibly Hezekiah since Hez married a Chiles.) If anyone knows Henry M - please, please, please, get in touch with me - this could be the break I was looking for. Thanks, Pat Snyder
Does anyone have access to the 1820 Louisa County Census and is willing to do me a favor and look up an individual? I am looking for a William Sharpe (or Sharp) who would be approx. 46. His wife's name was Elizabeth. He should have a son, Thomas, age approx. 16. In the 1850 census, he and Elizabeth were living in Frederick Hall. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
HI I am looking for information on the Sharp family of Louisa Co. My gggrandfather is James Nelson Sharp, born approx. 1813. First wife unknown, children Shaddrick, Mary, Elizabeth & Robert J Second wife Lucinda Chandler, children, Sarah, Permely, John W, & James Henry. James N (Jimmy) moved to Arkansas, (Sevier, Hempstead, & Pike county area) along with his brother William Alpheus. (William Alpheus married Missouri Washington Gentry.) Both were in Sevier Co census in 1840, In 1850 James N was in Hempstead Co. In 1860 he is back in Louisa Co., Thompsons crossroads Post Office. Oldest son Shaddrick is in houshold of Martha Snelson, and Catherine Johnson (her Neice). Shaddrick joined 23rd Va Co. A. This is the last trace of him. Don't know where he was in 1870. 1880 was Howard Co. census. First group of daughters,(Mary & Elizabeth) unknown. Would like to find James N's parents, the name of his first wife, and information on Shaddrick, Mary & Elizabeth. Other decendants are still known to the family. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone has any family information concerning these two families, I would love to have a chat. I have a good many GARLAND women marrying into the NUCKOLLS family early in the 1800's and don't know who they belong to in the GARLAND genealogy. Thanks, Adrianne
Found the Sparacio's homepage. They have abstracted and published records of a large number of Virginia counties. http/www.antientpress.com/
Dear Listers, I am trying to trace my maternal ancestors and know that my g-grandfather was Henry Hastings Sargeant, b. 1841 in Albemarle Co. and d. June 8, 1910 in Gordonsville, VA where he is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery. His wife was Mary Walker Burnham, b. July 15, 1842, d. Oct. 26, 1925. I have their marriage certificate which indicates Henry Hastings Sargeant was the son of "Natt and Louisa." The 1850 Louisa County Census on the Web lists on page 25 a Nathaniel Seargeant, 46 M, and Louisa, 38 F, along with 6 of their children including Henry H., 9 M. The Virginia Marriage Index, 1740-1850, on Ancestry.com lists a marriage between Nathaniel Seargeant and Louisa A. in Louisa County on Jan. 14, 1828 and also a marriage between Nathaniel Sargeant and Patsey Boyd in Louisa County on Dec.16, 1793. I would appreciate any information on this Sargeant/Sargent/Seargeant family and if anyone has time to do a lookup to confirm these marriages, I would be most appreciative. Dave Elder

Good afternoon all, Does anyone have a CD for Orphans courts for either Louisa/and or Orange County for the years 1800-1820? Is there such a CD? If a man died without a sizeable estate, probably intestate because he was fairly young, would his "orphans" be a business of the court? The mother, Elizabeth Atkins Groom lived with her father and the two children in 1820 in Orange Co. She and Mr. Mysterious Groom (that's a joke, not his name) probably married about 1799. Can't find a record anywhere. The Atkins lived in Orange Co, VA while the Groom could have been born in Louisa or Orange. Have no record of the 20 years if they lived together that long. Thanks, Pat Snyder
