    1. [VALOUISA-L] Early Estes Land Traders
    2. Hi everyone! Happy Y2K! I am searching for information about the families of: John Estes b: abt 1701-04; John Estes Jr. b: abt 1725; Micajah Estes b: abt 1727 Elisha Estes b: abt 1729. It is believed this is father and sons. These men are shown in Lousia and Halifax Co., County Records as trading in land between 1733 and 1796. These names are also connected with Moses, Richard and Robert Estes. Any information about these men or their families will be most appreciated. Roy Eastes, Gulfport, MS [email protected]

    3. I am a descendant of Edward Stringer and Frances Blackstone through Tabitha Stringer [my 3rd GGmother], sister of Elizabeth. Some of the Stringers went to Caswell Co, NC and some to Bullitt Co, KY. Thank you for posting the Hall information - did not know of the connection to the Stringer and Gentry lines. There may be more children of Elizabeth's that I have not entered into my computer. The Edmund Stringer you mention in the land transaction below is probably a brother of Elizabeth and Tabitha. There are other connections as well. In order to keep the post on the shorter side, I did not include the other children of Edward Stringer and his first wife, Frances Blackstone. I have interest in all collateral lines and descendants. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Descendants of Elizabeth Stringer I. Notes for DAVID * HALL: The Hall family history is intertwined with the history of Bullitt County. Records indicate that David Hall purchased 1400 acres of land from the Johnson family in 1788. This land was located on the waters of Salt River in Bullitt County, then Nelson County. This land was to be divided between David Hall and his two brothers, William and Clifton (<<<< note name), and three other relatives, David Paris, Edmund Stringer and Thomas Harris. The Hall brothers are thought to have come from Virginia to Lexington, KY, then Nelson County before settling in Bullitt County. The original acreage covered most of the land from Loyd's Fork to what is now Mt. Washington. While most all the land has been sold and divided among descendants, about 150 acres of the original property is still in the Hall family today. This property is located on Hall's Lane on the banks of Floyd's Fork just before the bridge to Shepherdsville. Still living on the Hall land is Glendon, Shirley and Emery Hall. 3. I curious if any member has an idea about what a couple of annotations on a census might mean. As most know, on the pre-1850 census manuscripts the enumerator would occasionally make an annotation beside the head of the household's name. For example, to differentiate between several people with the same names he might annotate the name of the father or an office the person held. A John Jones son of David Jones might have a (SD) after the name. A John Jones who was the county sheriff might have (SHR) following the name. The annotations that I need some help with occur on the 1830 and 1840 Louisa County census. They involve two men who I believe are father and son. Both are named Thomas Johnson. The father Thomas Johnson is between 90 and 100 years old in 1830. Beside his name is (PW). The son Thomas Johnson is between 50 and 60 in 1830. A (W) follows his name. By 1840 the elder Thomas Johnson has died, but the son is still listed with (W) following his name. On both census the brackets are around the letters. Although the son is shown on the 1850 and 1860 census, there is nothing about those listings that indicate the reasons these annotations had been used. I am very stumped by this question. And, would be grateful for any suggestions. ===== Lawrence Leveque [email protected] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. 1. [VALOUISA-L] 'Twas the Day before Yesterday
    2. 'TWAS The Day Before Yesterday 'TWAS the day before yesterday and all through the branches, NOT a name to be found, none of my ancestors. THE Journals and Bibles were dusty and worn, WHY should we care, these kinfolk are gone. THE pictures of children and family, long ago dead, ARE scattered, crinkled, and crammed under beds. DAD in his chair, and I with a book, HAD just settled back to give the TV a look. WHEN out on the street there arose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter. ON the way to the window I tripped with a crash, I tore open the curtains and looked through the glass. THE sun in the sky was nowhere in sight, THE clouds were so gray, it could have been night. WHEN what to my wondering eyes should appear, THE Mailman with packages, letters and cards of good cheer. THE driver was grumbling while sorting his letters, I knew in a moment, things had to get better. THE size of one letter stood out from them all, A distant cousin was asking about family, one and all. THE names of Grandpa and Grandma, Great Grandparents all, NEXT came my Father, my Brother, and Uncle Paul. FROM cousins and uncles to aunts and nephews, NIECES and in-laws, just to name a few. SO through the many journals and photos, and stuff I possessed, MY search for my ancestors slowly progressed. WHILE up the family tree I gradually climbed, MY ancestors names, I was seeking to find. UPON that tree I have carved many a name, THE branches of which, will never be the same. THE tree is now filled with many I've found, BUT in the search for others, now I am bound. THE ancestors whose names, I have written with love, THE Lord has gathered to take to His Father above. WITH so many names yet to be carved on that tree, I have little time to waste on games and TV. GATHERING names, photos, histories and places, REQUIRES a lot of love, patience, and God's good graces. SOME were Farmers, Soldiers and such, Mothers and Fathers who struggled much. SOME were Settlers, who traveled far, some Adventures, who followed the stars. SOME were rich but most were poor, they came by ship, seeking more. SOME died young, others old, many their stories yet untold. I cried when I thought of those brothers and sisters, FOR I am who I am, thanks to my ancestors. MY family is but one branch on the Tree of Life, A tree that grew strong through toil and strife. ALONE, I'm just a bare twig or a stub, TOGETHER we build a Family Tree of Love (Written by Linnie Vanderford Poyneer one night after a long day of research)

    3. Ethel, pray tell, what was the below message about Wm. & Thos SHARP in reply to?? I can't find its antecedent! In my line there is a Mary SHARP(E) who, I believe, m. (1) James LEAKE (d. 1764), and then (2) Bartholomew KINDRED(d. abt. 1804). I believe she died abt. 1808. Am seeking her vitals, her parents or any information which might lead there. Can anyone help? ( I have collected some bits of info on various SHARP individuals, c. 1710-1812, which I'd be glad to share, but so far I haven't formulated any genealogy of the SHARP line.)
