I have finally heard from a son of Dr. Malcolm HARRIS. Good News and Bad News. His son, James, is the executor of his Mother's estate who died recently. He was also the executor of his father's estate. There are some legal issues to resolve. It seems one of the sisters is claiming that her father left the copyright of the Louisa book to her. Now James said that when his father was alive he gave the book responsibility to his wife. She was the one who mailed them out and saw to the publisher, etc. Since she has passed away now the family is trying to settle the estate. He says that there is other more important issues to settle first. Of course we understand that. The the bad news: ...we'll have to wait until the family sorts out the copyright issue with this sister. If she really does have the copyright then the permission to reprint will come from her. When I spoke to her she was concerned about money. He said he would speak to her about that. The good news: James actually has his father's research. He said there was more left out of these books than was put into them. Can you imagine? Because of cost, his father had to decide what to include and what to leave out. He said that he actually went to cemetery's and interviewed descendants with bible's etc. In conclusion: The books by Dr. HARRIS will be reprinted. He wrote the History of New Kent as well as the History of Louisa and some others. I offered to help with this project, just to see the books printed again. He said he gets an average of 3 calls a week about his dads books. He is a researcher and historian and is planning to do something about reprinting his father's work. He isn't as concerned about the money as he is about fulfilling the need. He asked that I give him 2-6 months to finish out his mother's estate. In this time he will talk with his sister, try to find the copyright, etc. He wants to have the legal issue of copyright resolved. They have an attorney looking into it to determine if the sister does have the copyright. We just have to be patient. Maybe we'll be able to encourage him to add some more of the original research into the book. Who knows. We need to keep adding names to the list who wants the book. I told him we're at about 100 and he said that there is more than that for both books. This has been fun, I'll keep you posted when I talk to him again in a few months. Until then we must wait. Regards, Adrianne Hopkins
I am also interested in buying the book. Janet in San Antonio
Thank you Adrianne for all your work and time involved with getting the Harris book reprinted. I just wanted to know that I appreciate your efforts. :)) Peggy Hill.
Donna; I may have some Info on Love Statham & family. He was a neighbor of my HUNTER ancestors & his daughter married a Hunter. I'll check my records to see what I have and will get back to you if I find anything. I can't find a wife listed on his will, but the following children are mentioned: James Statham John Statham Charles Statham Robert Statham William Statham Nathaniel Statham Jesse (?) Statham Nancy Barnes Pleasant Statham Friends John Brown and James Christian executors. James, John, Charles and Robert left one dollar each. Remainder of estate divided equally between last five kids. Ok, I've only received messages from 3 folks on this correction addendum. This doesn't seem to be something we all need to be concerned over. We'll simply have the corrections inserted and move on. I did finally hear from one of the male children of Dr. HARRIS. I have not heard back as of yet. I don't think this person checks his email every day. I was trying to contact the family as a courtesy. We have a book to use as a copy. There is just one problem. It has ink mark corrections in it. Ugh. We are trying to overcome that hurdle right now. I'm sure that HIGGINSON has dealt with this kind of thing before. I hope to get the book in my hands in about another week. Then I'll send it along to the publisher. I'll contact you with the final price which still should be no more than $35 plus abt. $2.50 postage. If I understood how the postage works. :-) I will collect the money myself because I don't have to mail out the books. I'll report back ASAP. BTW, our book count now is 98. It is my understanding, I'm verifying this, when we get to 101 orders the price changes again. I hope a few more jump in so we can get another discount. Adrianne
My error, Ann. Nathaniel or TN are descendents of John, who died in Elbert Co., GA in 1823. He mentions a Nathaniel in his will. If you would like a copy of this will, send me a private email with your snail mail. Thanks!! In 1800 there were two John Peay's living in Louisa Co, VA according to the Census. Both were over age 45. In 1784, one of these John Peay's bought land on Cub Creek from Isham Watkins. In 1796, willbook i, the will of this John peay was recorded, and it says his wife's name is Mary. I also believe one of these John Peays was the father of Anthony Peay, born abt 1776. Lastly, I believe that if I can find out the ancestry/decendants for 1 generation of these John Peays I will figure out how 3 Peay lines are related. Does anyone have ANYTHING on either of these JOHN PEAYs who were in Louisa Co in the late 1700's? Evans Peay Clarksville, TN Researching Louisa Co, VA: Peay, Smith, Sims, Pendleton and Walton.
Am looking for ancestor Love Statham, who died in Louisa Co, VA about 1781. He was born about 1710. He had a son, either Nathaniel or Thompson Nathaniel. Most of the research I've seen shows TN as his son, but because of the age difference I suspect there's a generation in between. TN ended up in Irwin Co, GA. Thanks. Donna Newman
John was a sheriff in Louisa Co., until his death Nov., 12, 1770. He was the son of John Dabney Pettus and Anne Overton. He was married to Mary (Elizabeth?) Minor, and had eight children. However, some data show he may have been previously married to Mary Minor. If anyone has information regarding this first marriage, and children resulting from it, it would be appreciated if you could share it with me. Don Bartlett

I have had a few emails concerning the Addendum. I want to throw this out to the group since it is a group project. It has been suggested to print the "Addendum" in a separate book. Again, I don't know how many corrections we are talking about. I didn't think there would be many. If you KNOW you are going to send corrections to be included in the book, please email me: [email protected] I will report back to the group after a 24 hr. period and a decision can be made then. It confuses so many folks to go back and forth on the Louisa Co. list. Too much mail isn't appreciated for those not interested in our project. :-) Thanks for your patience, Adrianne
I will let everyone know where to send their money soon. We have a copy of the book but it will take about 2 weeks to get it ready for printing. It has some corrections that have to be erased out to make it camera ready. Thanks folks, Adrianne
The $33.00 plus shipping (approximately) sounds good to me. Has someone stepped forward to facilitate this matter (sorry, I am not volunteering!). Where should the money be sent? I have a question. My family and friends keep telling me that some of my relatives are whole brothers and sisters. They have the same mother, but different fathers through divorce and death of spouses. Some have the same father, but different mothers for the same reasons. Could someone tell me a website or book that I can find the correct information. Thanking you in advance for your advice and genealogy kindness. Would you post to the list?
