I am looking for the any sisters or parents of Sarah Bramham that is listed below living in the same household with Wm. W. Walton on the 1850 Louisa County, VA, Census. Walton Wm. W. 42 M Laborer Bramham Sarah 41 F M Bramham Henry 15 F M Bramham William 13 M M Bramham Caroline 11 F M Bramham Frances 8 F M Bramham Joseph 4 M M Bramham Sallie 2 F M ======= There are in that 1850 Louisa County, VA census a SARAH BRAMHAM that has three daughters (or grandaughters) around the same age as the Sarah above, even though the family differs in race notation. Bramham Sarah 72 F "$9,516.00 " Bramham Caroline 38 F Bramham Harriet 32 F Bramham Ellen 30 F Bramham John 29 M Is there anyone who knows anything about either one of these families. There is a possibility the first Sarah Bramham listed as M, with her children listed as M, could be Indian or Mixed Race. I am not sure of this at all. In one census I believe she was listed as a "Farmer's Rep," if I'm not mistaken. Sincerely, and hopefully, Dee Randall.
Donna's deductive reasoning seem right on. Thanks Donna. These William Hall's therefore would be of interest? Does anyone know more about them? I am going to throw this out there for the sake of discussion: 1. Once again, there is a variation in the spelling of the name of William's wife. We have seen "Annah", "Hannah", "Anne", "Ann", "Anna", and "Anney". The LDS Genealogy Index has a William Hall born in Louisa Co, Va, in 1765 to William and Anne Hall, died Bullitt Co, KY in 1807, making him age 42. My theory is this: The William tied with Clifton in the deeds dtd 1778 and 1788 whose respective spouses are Ann and Abagail, are not brothers, but father and son, with William and Ann being the parents of Clifton. Why? Because the William born in 1765 would only be 13 years old, and being of such a young age, wouldn't likely be buying property, much less listed first on the deed. I say Wm the elder and Ann were the parents of Clifton, Simeon, Wm. etc. 2. Do you have any further information on the court case of UNDERWOOD vs. HARRIS, Louisa Co 23 April 1745? 3. The Power of Attorney I had referenced regarding the heirs to Charles YEAMANS has Wm HALL and Thos. OVERSTREET giving POA to Clifton HALL to "recieveing of our legacy of Austin YEAMANS and Jesey HOGARD executors of the estate of Charles YEAMANS of Hanover Co..." Why only William and Thomas?? Your take on it, Anne was : <> Wm. HALL (1765 - 1807) had a daughter named Zillah; she is named in his will of 1807, and also in Bullitt Co. Marriage book 1A p. 27 marrying Jesse SWEARAGEN on 2-5-1818. Is there a listing of James Overstreet's children anywhere? I have found this site particularly helpful. Lots of transcripts and names we all are looking for! Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia Have a great day. Hi, I am trying to get some family inf. on this family. I had a young lady, Frances who married James Duke NUCKOLLS 1809 in Louisa. I have been told that she is the dau. of Rev. War Partriot John THOMASSON and his wife Frances COOK. Can you tell me the children of John & Frances. Was John the son of Samuel & Temperance? Any light you can shed would be most appreciated. Court Order that Love Statham's grandson, William Dabney Statham, was illegitimate, it looks as though the following may be his descendants living in Fluvanna Co.: William D. Statham was m. in Fluvanna Co. in 1820. There were also other Stathams, all having the middle initial "D" who were married in the same time frame: John D. in 1817, Polley D. in 1822, Powhatan D. in 1825, Thomas D. in 1829, Judith D. [Dabney] in 1841, and James D. in 1842. Were these all children who used the Statham name because it was their father's and whose legal name was Dabney, presumably their mother's? Information of this sort is usually found in the Court Orders, and I'm wondering what a close reading of the Fluvanna Orders would show. I am confused by the latest developments concerning the book. a copyright is a legal protection of a work of some type-registerd with the united states.it is only allowed to be given to someone, if it is owned by the person giving it.ie, if the copyright was not renewed it can be given to anyone as it beongs to no one and therefore is not the property of one person, heir or not.the copyright must be registered ;otherwise , It is free material for anyone to use. Does anyone else agree?
RE the recent thread on Love Statham, Ann Avery Hunter mentions a grandson of Love's named William Dabney Statham - I have in my line a Judith Dabney Statham who m. James Hezekiah Harlow in Fluvanna Co in 1841 - does she sound familiar to anyone? Her mother was Mary, middle initial D. , maiden name unknown. I am wondering whether the D was for Dabney... I just got a will for David Pulliam, hoping to find a clue for MY William P. Pulliam. This will is David making out a new will in 1794. The County is Spotsylvania and it is in Berkeley Parish. The children named are Nathaniel, John, Elijah, James, William, and Nancy, Sally, and Mary. He does not mention his wife. He says that Mary is his youngest daughter and that William is the youngest son. He also says that he " would like for them all to stay together, at least until they get married". The only other mention of age is that Mary and William should get a full share when they turn 19. I am very puzzled by the age. It seems that from his wish that they stay together until married that they might ALL be underage. Does any one out there have any more info on these people. Such as wife, ages, parents etc?? This will and inventory are pretty thorough. I will be glad to share info with any one. The will was witnessed by George Penny , William Penny and Moses Wheelor. The inventory was dated July 1st 1794. Hope there is something here that might help someone On an additional page, Nathaniel and Joseph Pulliam and Stockley Towles and William Bronaugh are held and firmly bound to Thomas Towles, Robert Hart, Serec [?] Holladay, and Bevy [?] Stubblefield, Gentlemen Justices of the Court of Spotsylvania now sitting in the sum of $2000.00 to the payment whereof, etc-etc. Translation--??? What was going on? It goes on to set conditions of this obligation. Bill Bentley Hurst TX
I have just signed onto this site and may not be correct in my approach. However, I would like to put my info on the site and ask for the help of any of your great people in VA in finding more about my gggggrandparents, Charles Kennedy and Crotia Davenport Kennedy (ca 1740-1800) (of Louisa, Hanover and Culpepper). I know nothing about the parents, siblings of Charles Kennedy. I have a fair amount of info on Crotia Davenport. I am also descended from Martin Davenport (New Kent Co.,VA) thru the marriage of Dorothy Davenport to Thomas Baker (Culpepper, VA) and their daughter, Mary Baker who m William Mallory of Culpepper, VA. I would be very interested in any history or facts regarding the Mallory family. He (William) died in Burke Co., .NC while visiting his family there ca 1799), leaving daughters, Dorothy Mallory Jarrett, Elizabeth, Ann, and ??. I am also interested in the fate of Thomas Baker of Culpepper, VA who was reportedly killed in a gunpowder explosion while making ammunition for the Rev. soldiers. All of these folks apparently moved around a good deal in VA and were at one time or another in Louisa Co., Culpepper Co., and/or Hanover Co. Any info anyone might have would be deeply appreciated. Thank you. Geraldine Kennedy Young [email protected]

The Louisa County Historical Society Magazine is available at the Fairfax Library, The Virginia Historical Society and the Library of Virginia and others. Also, I have published the Free Blacks of Louisa County Register. It is available through Iberian Publishing Co. Iberian has a site on the web. This book and the Louisa Co. Death Register has much information on Blacks in Louisa Co. To my knowledge no one has published the Births of Louisa Co. as yet. Janice
In the Louisa County Historical Society Journals Volume 23, Number 2 Fall 1992 (Pages 77 to 134) there is an article: "Researching Free Blacks in Louisa County, Virginia 97 J. Quintus Massie" Can anyone tell me any libraries in Virginia that may have the journals so I can read this article. I don't know if it is allowed if someone has this article to email me, and that would be more than appreciated, but I am also looking to find these journals in a library. I know that when I lived in Seattle Washington, they had them there. So I might get lucky in Va. Thanks a lot. Dee.
