>From the Templer Family Page at http://www.geocities.com/templerfamily The Templer family of this home page traces their roots to James Templer, b. about 1755 in Shelbourne Parish, Loudoun County, d. after 1846 in Virginia. James Templer married Martha Huff on 31 August 1775 in Loudoun County, Virginia. Martha Huff was b. about 1755 and d. after 1840. Nothing is known at this time about the parents of these two people who are the progenitors of our family. An old family history, published in 1894, includes the story that the family name was Temple and that the 'r' was added about 1750. A later writing in 1939 added the story that the 'r' was added because of a dispute in the family. Nonetheless, we would be interested in talking to anyone in a Temple or Templer family who has information that might make a connection to the parents of James Templer. James Templer and Martha Huff had 7 or 8 children depending on how you interpret various census data. We have contact with current descendants of four of those lines listed below. Those children were: · William Templer (b. 29 December 1775, d. 24 October 1854) married Anna Trittenbach, daughter of Conrad Trittenbach, on 13 July 1803 in Loudoun County, VA. We have active contact in this line. · John J. (and/or Jonathon) Templer (abt 1777 or 1778) - may be two people · James Templer (abt 1779) · Esther Templer (abt 1780) · Martha Templer (abt 1781) married Hezekiah Clemons on 23 November 1800 in Loudoun County, VA. We have active contact in this line. · Stacey Templer (b. 1782, d. 29 October 1864) married Rachel Pettit, daughter of Andrew Pettit, on 30 December 1806 in Loudoun County, VA. We have active contact in this line. · Thomas Templer (b. 1787, d. after 1850) married Jane Lowe, daughter of Thomas Lowe, 25 December 1809 in Loudoun County, VA. This is my line. Here is what we know about the other three of those children for whom we have no known current day descendants. · John J. (or Jonathon) Templer married Nancy Flanagan on 11 February 1805 in Loudoun County, Virginia. They had a daughter named Catherine, born 18 January 1811, who married a Samuel Potts. · James Templer is known to have married and had a child based on information found in the 1830-1840 Knox County, Ohio census data. Marriage records in Knox and Butler counties in Ohio list 2 possible wives as Lucy Dailey and Mary Auld. · Esther Templer married Gerrard Trammell on 17 May 1808 in Loudoun County Virginia and they had a child by the name of Elizabeth Trammell. Elizabeth married Samuel Freed on 9 August 1830 with Thomas Templer shown as the guardian, which might indicate that Gerrard Trammell had died prior to that date. We would appreciate any contact with families or researchers who might have information on any of the above lines. Thanks and best wishes for the new year, Charlie Templer
