Hi List, So here I am with another dumb question. I just received a copy of a land transaction from Loudoun Co. Va. It is the sale of land by John Spencer to George Lewis, 25 April 1778 It say's in part " a tract of land..... granted to said John Spencer by patent from the Proprietor's Office " How would I look for the patent ?? What is the Proprietor's Office ??? John Spencer and Icey [Snow] his wife who are my ancestor's. Thank You for any help you can give me. Sondra
The proprietor was Thomas, Lord Fairfax. He granted land (through agents) in the Northern Neck. They are available, on-line, through the digital Library of Virginia. www.lva.lib.va.us Some of the NN grants have been platted, and are available on the Deed Mapper site.
