Just to keep the list updated on my progress of attempting to find a "list of Loudoun Co. Va residents who took the Oath of Allegiance or Fidelity during the Revolutionary War"... I have contacted the following organizations and received the replies... Library of Virginia - no list in their collections Thomas Balch Library in Loudoun - no list known Circuit Court Clerk's Office of Loudoun - no list found Willow Bend books - no book on Loudoun Oaths (also searched a number of other books sites with no luck) NARA - they offer lists of early Oaths but not specifying Loudoun* ======== contacted the following but have received no reply as of yet DAR Virginia Genealogical Society Library of Congress Virginia Historical Society ========= Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to search? *note in the letter that I received from NARA they list microfilms that they have in their collection of "original and printed oaths of office taken mainly by line and staff officers of the Continental Army" they go on to add that there is also a series of oaths "taken by military officers and civilian officials of the pre-federal government". They very generously explained that the book "Some of the Earliest Oaths of Allegiance to the United States of America" by Nellie Protsman Waldmaier is an index to the described series. While searching for "the Loudoun Oaths" I stumbled across a used copy of the book so if someone on the list thinks that their ancestor may be listed in the book let me know and I will check the index - but please be aware that the information does not say where the person taking the oath resides (other than occasionally listing a state). I am a bit pressed for time so if you have not traced your family back to the 1778 period please wait until you have to request a check of the index - Thank you, Susan McIntyre
Susan, Could you check to see if there is a John KENT or a Thomas KENT or a Robert KENT listed in the Index--I know that Robert was a veteran, but know nothing else of him. John is supposed to be older, than Robert and Thomas is their father, however, he died abt 1785/6. Thank you so much. Heather Olsen Ft.
