Susan, Hi! In my book called Abstracts of Wills, Administrations, and Marriages of Fauquier County, Virginia I have the following on page 47: "CARROLL, Sanford Betty BARTLETT 13 Feb. 1771." Then on page 46 of the same book, it states the following: "BARTLETT, Thomas CARROLL, Sarah 2 Jan. 1777." I have them mentioned again in Fauquier County, Virginia Marriage Bonds. On page 12 it states the following: "BARTLETT, Thomas & Sarah CARROL, Jan. 2, 1777 -bdsm: Sanford CARROLL" (notice the different spellings) Then on page 219 it states the following: "WRIGHT, Joshua & Susanna CARELL, Mar. 14, 1808 -bdsm: Wm. CARRELL; MR (DVS) (bride Susanna CARROL)." (notice the different spellings!!!) Then in Fauquier County, Virginia Deeds 1759-1778 mentions Sanford a lot, but with two different spellings of his last name. My guess would be that they are the same person. I will give you what I have on both. On page 144 it states the following: "Pages 267-269. 26 Sept. 1772. lease. Bet Henry PEYTON and Silvester WELCH .. tract on the Main Br. of Broad Run of Occoquan .. cor. of Brian OBANNON .. cor of the land of John TOWARD & Wm. MCBEE .. to a path leading from Edmonds plantation to Broad Run .. 300a .. for 99 years from abouve date .. yearly rent of 1,000 lbs of Crop tobacco & cask with quitrents and land taxes .. WELCH not to build a mill.. to have timber from the "end of the PIGNUT tract of land" next to the 300a. above leased, if not enough on the 300a. .. Singed: Henry PEYTON, Silvester (x) WELCH. Wits: Sanford CARRELL, James FOLEY, John OBANNON. Rec: 23 Nov. 1772, ack. by parties." Sanford was mentioned again on page 174. It states the following: "Page 113. 11 Feb 1774. Bill of Sale. HHenry ALLEN & Betty, h. w., Admrs. of Estate of James NELSON., dec'd, in consideration of a judgment of L63 obtained by Wm. CARR agst. the estate, which judgment Henry PEYTON and John OBANON are bound to pay .. to Peyton & OBANON .. house hold furniture .. horses .. cattle .. servant man named Nicholas BALL, one named Robert DUNN, do: named Mary JONES. Signed: Henry ALLEN, Betty ALLEN. Wits: Sanford CARRELL, Samuel OBANNON, Thomas ALLEN. Rec: 23 Jan. 1775, prov. by o. of CARRELL and OBANON wits." Now my mom has the next part underlined, so we may have to get together to share notes. Sanford is mentioned on pae 179 again in the same book. "Pages 155-159. 27 April 1775. B & S. Bet John HATHAWAY and Sarah, h. w. of Leeds Par. and Joseph BLACKERBY .. l110 .. tract on head br. of Little River .. part of land from Prop. to Mr. John CLARK .. in CHINN's line thence with line of the orig. survey .. Sanford is mentioned again on page 181 in the same book. "Pages 182-185. 25 Aug. 1775. Lease. Bet. henry PEYTON, Gent. of Leeds Par. and William KIDWELL .. east side of Millars Spring br. .. down to Broad Run .. for his nat. life and for lives of Mary, h.w. and John KIDWELL, his son .. yearly rent of 530 lbs. tobacco, quitrents & land tax .. Signed: Henry PEYTON, William KIDWELL. Wits: James FOLEY, William FOLEY. Rec: 28 Aug. 1775, prov. by o. of Sanford CARRELL, James and William FOLEY." I think I understand how we might be connected now. My mom has this next passage underlined. We will have to share notes!!! On page 131 of the same book, it states the following: "Pages 1-6. 6 Mar. 1772. Lease & release. Bet. Judson COOLEDGE & Mary, his wife, of Maryland and Thomas BARTLETT .. granted by Prop. to John CLARK of Salem in New England and by Clark conveyed to James CAMPBELL & by sd. Campbell & Judith, his wife, to sd. COOLEDGE .. east side of main br. of Goose Creek called Hunger Run [Little River] cor. to land of John FISHBACK and Jacob HOLTCLAW .. cor. to Major James BALL .. 2 small branches of Crummynses Run [CROMWELL's or CRUMMIES' Run] .. land of Dr. THORTON .. 1,748 a. .. L400 .. Signed: Judson COLLEDGE, Mary COLLEDGE. Wits: Sanford CARROLL, Reubin STROTHER, william YATES. Rec: 27 April 1772, prov. by o. o wits." The last entry for Sanford in this book is on page 162. It states the following: "Pages 501-504. 9 Dec 1773. Lease. Bet. Henry PEYTON of Leeds Par., Gent. and Sanford CARROLL and Sylvester Welch .. tenement at the Pignut Ridge and on the waters of Broad Run of Occoquan, being part of a tract devised to the sd. Wits: John FISHBACK, John BARKER, George GLASCOCK, Josiah FISHBACK. Rec: 28 Mr. 1774, prov. by o. of BARKER, GLASCOCK, and Josiah FISHBACK." The last CARROLL that I have mentioned in my books is located in Fauquier County, Virginia Guardian Bonds 1759-1871. It states the following on page 109: "John MARSHALL (signed: John MARSHALL of Markham), appt. gdn of Edward C., Norman F., Rebecca C. and John MARSHALL, children of said John MARSHALL, under 14 years of age. 26 Mar. 1866. For $2,500. Sec:Gray CARROLL." Ok... this is all I have on the CARROLL family from Fauquier! Let me know if you would like anything else looked up! I'm having fun with this.
