(Such as a distant cousin of yours relying on a certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1860, in a town that later became West Virginia). Of course, the Virginia archives for that part of Virginia that later became West Virginia have been transferred to WV. Your ancestors apparently moved to that area just before WV became a State, so there COULD be such confusion. Tom
